A truce in ‘Margaritaville’
Lawyers for Jimmy Buffett and Ypsilanti playwright Barton Bund have reached a truce in the battle of “Margaritaville.” Bund’s play “Margaritaville” — set in Key West, it’s a comedy about same-sex marriage — can keep its title through Saturday, when its run ends at the Blackbird Theatre in Ann Arbor. Any subsequent production, revision or sequel will carry a different name — perhaps “Tequilaville,” Bund said Monday. Although reluctant to make any changes, Bund wants to avoid legal proceedings “that might go on for weeks after the show had closed.” Bund’s nonprofit theater company, performing in a 100-seat house, would be up against Buffett’s multi-million-dollar corporate interests. “They have the resources to win,” Bund says, but there is a silver lining: Publicity about the matter “has been good for business.”

Eric Olsen named Margaritaville on of the top songs of summer in an MSNBC column.

His detailed analysis of the song makes this parrotthead want to pour a pitcher down his throat! Though he gets it to some extent, he has surely over thought the whole concept.

Or perhaps he is taking one of those Buffett-themed college courses…

After stalling at #16 last week, “Hey Good Lookin’” continues its chart climb this week, moving to #11 on the All About Country Hot 40.

“Hey Good Lookin’” moves to #15, up from #16, on this week’s Radio & Records country survey. It is third in increased plays (+388).

A commericial for Celebrity Justice is saying that Buffett will be on Celebrity Justice, Tuesday June 15, 2004. He will be making a federal case for Margaritaville. Chck your local listings.

The Sun News has an article “Summer of Buffett“. The article mentions Broadway at the Beach’s Margaritaville Cafe has a tentative opening date of July 9. The article talks about the possibility of Jimmy performing at the grand opening.
