The Red Sox finally accomplished a goal they have been unable to achieve in the past 86 years. They beat the St Louis Cardinals in the World Series and are now the World Champions. At his first show at Fenway Park back on September 10th, Jimmy Buffett said he would put an end to the Red Sox curse. His exorcism on that night put an end to the curse once and for all.

From an article in the New Bedford Standard Times:
http://www.southcoasttoday.com/daily/10-04/10-26-04/c03sp733.htm

Maureen Woolley remembers all too vividly last year’s heart-breaking seventh-game loss to the New York Yankees, a game in which the Red Sox came within five outs of reaching the World Series. She’s traveled that roller-coaster of emotion many times during her trip through Red Sox Nation, most of the time exiting in a state of nausea. This time, however, promises to be different — at least in the eyes of Woolley and her fellow flock of Parrot Heads who got that “promise” during a Jimmy Buffett Concert at Fenway Park in September. “He said it was about time the curse came to an end and we believe him,” said Woolley, who along with her husband Brian are co-founders of the Nautical Whalers Parrot Head Club Inc., a chapter of the National Parrotheads in Paradise. They affectionately refer to themselves as “Pheathered Phriends” and what they heard and saw their King Parrot say and do that September night in Fenway Park was, well … “Phenomenal.” “It was just after he sang Take Me Out To The Ballgame when he started talking about the curse,” Woolley said. He talked about the history of Fenway Park, the devotion of the team’s faithful fans and how the pain and suffering was about to end. He continued to rev up the crowd by hitting t-shirts into the audience and kept the crowd howling with a resounding version of his big hit, Jolly Mon.
“He had us believing,” said Woolley.

JIMMY BUFFETT “SURVIVING THE STORM - HURRICANE BENEFIT”

ORLANDO, FL–Jimmy Buffett and his Coral Reefer Band will be performing a special concert on Tuesday, November 23, 2004 at the T.D. Waterhouse Centre in Orlando, Florida, to raise hurricane relief funds for Florida, Alabama and the Caribbean.

“SURVIVING THE STORM - HURRICANE BENEFIT” concert is being presented and sponsored by Bank Of America, Outback Steakhouse and Carrabba’s Italian Grill.

As an Alabama native and Florida resident, Jimmy Buffett, whose love for the Caribbean is well known, has a deep connection to the area. This hurricane season has been especially destructive, and left many residents with damaged property or homeless.

Buffett spends much of his time in this region, and has written many songs about the unpredictability of hurricanes, volcanoes and other outbursts of Mother Nature.

From MSNBC: “Fenway’s allure intact as MLB’s oldest park”
http://msnbc.msn.com/id/6309741/

Residents of the congested Fenway neighborhood objected to concerts in the past. But the new owners brought in Bruce Springsteen in 2003 and Buffett this year with the stage set up in center field.

Johnny Damon also plays in center field and noticed the faded grass once the stage was removed after Buffett’s two shows in September.

“It was OK. The grounds crew did a good job,” he said. “Jimmy Buffett’s definitely much better than I, but we both got to play out there.”
