Wal-Mart Concert Correction

May 20th, 2005 8:43 pm       15 Comments »

The Wal-Mart associates concert on June 2 is not open to the public.
——————————-
Seating will be limited for Wal-Mart associate concerts during Shareholders’ Week

May 20, 2005 — Admission for both the indoor and outdoor Wal-Mart associate concerts during the week of the Shareholders’ Meeting will be on a first-come, first-served basis. While the admission process for the indoor concert has not changed, there will be some important differences for the outdoor concert. The indoor concert featuring Will Smith along with Sara Evans and Brad Paisley will be held at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 1, in Bud Walton Arena. There will be seating for 18,000 including 4,000 Wal-Mart associates from stores around the world. The remaining 14,000 seats will be filled with associates, each of whom can be accompanied by one guest, shareholders and the general public, if any seats remain. The outdoor concert at 7 p.m. on Thursday, June 2, in Razorback Stadium will feature performances from Shakira, Jesse McCartney and Jimmy Buffett. Admission to this concert will be handled differently than in past years.

* Contrary to misinformation communicated by some media outlets, this concert is not open to shareholders or to the general public.
* Outdoor concert attendance will be limited to 25,000 Wal-Mart associates and specially invited guests. Wal-Mart associates will be allowed to bring one guest each.
* Admission for associates is on a first-come, first-served basis.
* Associates must present their valid Wal-Mart ID badges at the gate.
* Souvenir tickets will be handed out as each person enters the stadium. When the tickets are gone, no one else will be allowed inside.

The Wild Parrots of Telegraph

May 19th, 2005 7:02 am       11 Comments »

From Judy Irving: Just wanted to let you know that my film, “The Wild Parrots of Telegraph Hill,” is now in national theatrical release and is opening in several Florida cities in May and June. See http://www.wildparrotsfilm.com/ for info about the film and updated theater listings. (It will screen in over 300 cities before the DVD is released in early 2006.)

“Wild Parrots” is a nonfiction feature film about a Bohemian St. Francis and his remarkable relationship with a flock of wild cherry-headed conures in San Francisco. Mark Bittner, a homeless street musician, falls in with the flock as he searches for meaning in life, unaware that the wild parrots will bring him everything he needs.

iTunes Essentials: Jimmy Buffett

May 18th, 2005 5:34 pm       2 Comments »

iTunes has just added Jimmy Buffett to its lineup of iTunes “Artist Essentials“. The package includes 75 songs in total, and if you aren’t familiar with how iTunes does their Essentials program, there are three layers: The Basics, Next Steps, and Deep Cuts. This is a very eclectic mix and all serves as a good guideline for any new parrothead, and each “layer” is available for $24.75, the whole package for about $75. This collection is in a sense an “updated” box set.

Buffett to Perform for Wal-Mart Rumor

May 14th, 2005 7:18 am       46 Comments »

Here’s a rumor that mentions Buffett will be part of the entertainment rooster for the annual stockholders meeting at the Reynolds Razorback Stadium in Arkansas in June.

http://www.arkansasbusiness.com/news/article_search.asp?keyword=buffett

Update from the Arkansas Times:
Speaking of Jimmy Buffett, he can’t seem to find a Central Arkansas slot on his touring schedule, but sources indicate he’s working Northwest Arkansas in on June 2, appearing at Reynolds Razorback Stadium as part of the Wal-Mart shareholders meeting in Fayetteville. The shareholders will get first dibs on the best seats, but with 72,000 seats available, there ought to be enough open spots for the rest of us. And, talk about your pre-concert tailgating outside the stadium — this may be better than the celebration before last fall’s Arkansas-Texas game. There’s no word yet on how tickets for non-shareholders will be sold or distributed. Maybe there’s still time to become a Wal-Mart shareholder of record before the meeting.

The word floating around the concert industry, we’re told, was that Wal-Mart Corp. was willing to pay $1 million to $1.5 million for a Buffett appearance, about two to three times what he’d normally make for a show. Buffett is one of the few artists doing stadium shows in post 9/11, with five scheduled this summer (one in Pittsburgh, two in Philadelphia and two at Chicago’s Wrigley Field) in addition to several amphitheater appearances.
