News about the Movie Hoot

January 27th, 2006 4:46 pm       26 Comments »

Things are looking good for our Parrotmeister’s movie!!
http://www.bocabeacon.com/story.htbml?number=1080

Note change of date for the opening: April 22, 2006
[i:deff557f1d]
The movie had been slated to debut on April 7. New Line, however, has decided to push back the premiere to April 22. "Earth Day," Shriner noted, adding that it was appropriate because the movie, based on the Carl Hiaason novel about three kids and their struggle to save a burrowing owl population, has an environmental theme.

Jimmy Buffett is among the film’s producers. Shriner said Buffett is currently in Los Angeles completing the movie’s score. The soundtrack will include a new Buffett song entitled "Good Guys Win".

"The title is pretty much the theme of the movie," Shriner said.

Buffett, he said, has also previewed the movie. His reaction?

"He thinks I’m a genius," Shriner deadpanned. "Jimmy is very eager to get the soundtrack completed," Shriner said. "The music compliments the movie and the movie compliments the soundtrack".[/i:deff557f1d]

Jimmy’s Old Boat

January 27th, 2006 6:59 am       8 Comments »

Motor Boating Magazine has an article "One couple’s Nordhavn 62 is built to go where other boats cannot"
http://www.motorboating.com/motorboat/features/article/0,12696,1153456,00.html

The boat use to belong to Jimmy Buffett:

[i:508d60d33e]Meanwhile the boat, now called Bonne Vie (the good life, in French), had some adventures of its own. For three years it belonged to Jimmy Buffett, who used it extensively in the Caribbean. Buffett, says Ron, took good care of the boat, but his palm-tree upholstery didn’t match the Bonvies’s taste. "We just kept a couple of his pillows," says Donna. [/i:508d60d33e]

Jamaica Dog Sled Team

January 26th, 2006 6:19 pm       3 Comments »

Margaritaville is a primary sponsor of the Jamaican Dog sled Team. Apparently they did pretty well in their race Sunday (27 out of 40 is really good for a musher who had not seen snow before). They say that they rescue all the dogs from the Kingston Pound.

Jimmy recording in Key West

January 21st, 2006 6:42 pm       21 Comments »

Jimmy and the gang are recording in his studio in Key West this week. I almost bumped into him as he stepped outside for a break. He was in a conversation or I would have said hello (respectful to our hero). It was nice to see him up close without all the security and entorouge.

Jimmy is mentioned in the NY Metro article "The Cocktail Creationist"

“Brands are a funny thing,” he says. “Corona beer started at the University of Texas, where kids were putting a lime in it. Then Jimmy Buffett was drinking it. Then it was the hottest beer in America. With Jager, we saw we were getting large orders because the LSU kids were drinking it. [/i:2a65b47b77]

Hugo Duarte this week on Time After Island Time

January 15th, 2006 8:16 pm       3 Comments »

HUGO DUARTE: An Undiscovered Treasure in Americana Music, Hugo Duarte is a special guest on this week’s "Time After Island Time."
Hugo Duarte developed his style from the many places he’s been. We’ll hear some of his past albums and his latest "Don’t Be Fooled by the Hat" and talk with the man behind the hat.

Hugo has lived in a lot of places, from the Carolinas to Key West and when he was a youngster he saw the Marshall Tucker band play for a $1. So in tribute to Hugo’s eclectic musical roots we play a song from the late great Toy Caldwell of Marshall Tucker fame.

Hugo tells us about his heritage and life…with a name like Hugo Duarte, you know it’s good. His Cuban heritage has definitely shown up in his music. 90 miles north of Cuba is Key West, where Hugo developed a friendship with Jimmy Buffett, the Calypso Poet and his Coral Reefer Band. We hear some Coral Reefer music, because anyone who is lucky enough to catch Hugo live knows that Greg "Fingers" Taylor sits in.
