South Carolina Jimmy Buffet fans are pushing for "Parrot Head" license tags.

http://www.wavy.com/Global/story.asp?S=4559516&nav=23ii

The "Parrot Head" plates that will be discussed in that state’s legislature tomorrow. The plates would join similar tags approved in Virginia in 2002. A portion of each South Carolina tag would benefit Alzheimer’s groups.

Parrot Head fundraising projects have had a soft spot for Alzheimer’s since Buffett’s father died after suffering from it.

Gina Knight runs the Margaritaville store in Charleston and opened Buffett’s first store in Key West, Florida, in 1985. She says a license tag from South Carolina would be one more product for fans devoted to the artist behind such hits as "Margaritaville" and "A Pirate Looks at Forty."

Knight says while it’s a phenomenon she doesn’t quite understand, she’s still grateful for it.

Kathleen Shaputis, of Olympia, Washington, and her husband, Bob, are Parrot Heads. In her debut novel "Changes in Attitude" Shaputis has a triangle of friends around the protagonist Allie trying to understand her obsession with Jimmy Buffett, and her new maternal quest of having a baby. Allie cybershops for a father with a PH factor (Parrot Head genes). “Jimmy’s music speaks to your heart,” Shaputis said. “I want non-Parrot Heads to find out about this remarkable man, and fellow Parrot Heads to enjoy a good story.”
