Jimmy Buffett will be launching a new beer called "Land Shark Lager" under the Margaritaville brand name. The beer will be brewed by Anheuser-Busch but on the label it will say "Margaritaville Brewing Company". The label for the bottle was approved on 11/05/2006.
News articles have mentioned Land Shark Lager will be introduced at the show in Tallahassee on February 10, 2007 and then it will be available at retailers in the state of Florida.

Won’t the folks at [size=18:98a543410c]Saturday Night Live [/size:98a543410c]have something to say about this?
December 21st, 2006 at 7:36 am
Cool Idea…I hope it isn’t just repackaged Bud :pirate:
December 21st, 2006 at 7:37 am
diluted and repackaged..
December 21st, 2006 at 8:07 am
Anyone know if it will be available outside the state of Florida? Although having to go to Florida on a beer run may not be such a bad thing.
December 21st, 2006 at 9:16 am
label says 3.2% alcohol. 6+ proof beer, that’s pretty potent stuff for the US, isn’t it?
December 21st, 2006 at 9:48 am
no. most real beers are 3.5 and above. States like SD and Colorado have laws about 3.2 beer… otherwise known as "training laws"
:D:D
December 21st, 2006 at 9:54 am
The 3.2 is sold in grocery stores, otherwise you get the good stuff at the LQ store. Of course if it’s Sunday then you’ll have to go to the grocery….just buy twice as much.
but with so many breweries in my town I don’t know why you’d be buying mass-produced beer anyway….of course I’ll try this stuff if I can.
December 21st, 2006 at 10:04 am
back before the "you must be 21 before you can legally act like an idiot with alcohol" change, SD had the rule: If you are 18, you can drink 3-2; if you are 19, you can drink real beer; and when you are 21, you can drink liquor. Of course, with Coors in CO…
yeah, I’d stick with the local micros myself. Stock up, so you have a couple cases in case of a blizzard.. ;D
December 21st, 2006 at 10:05 am
So how many of the Parrotheads will now refuse to drink Corona because of this?
December 21st, 2006 at 10:06 am
you mean ones that drank Corona before? or in general?
December 21st, 2006 at 10:08 am
about the same that refuse to drink Margaritaville tequila. Because those that think Corona is good probably think that rot gut shit they sell as tequila is too.
December 21st, 2006 at 10:14 am
haha…the twquila is nasty stuff.
It would be nice if Margaritaville came out with a quality product but I really dout this is it.

First time we went to Mexico (about 12 years ago), we were on a catamaran and they had a choice of Margarita or Beer.
I do like beer but wanted to try the other.
Almost spit it out the second it went in. Choked back half and dumped it. Changed over to Beer. DosEquis. Not a big fan.
Choked down 3.
It was hot and I was thirsty. They got tasting better and by 7,8 and 9……I REALLY LIKED BOTH DRINKS.
Shows what perseverance does for you………that’s the problem with many kids these days….they don’t stick with things.
December 21st, 2006 at 10:36 am
and rehab’s for quitters too.
December 21st, 2006 at 11:01 am
Isn’t that what they call the "Select"? Man does that stuff give me a headache; worse than Bud lite
December 21st, 2006 at 11:03 am
not sure. have only had it once. it was pretty decent in STL on a hot, really humid day
December 21st, 2006 at 11:05 am
I hear ya…..ehhhh tastes nasty.
December 21st, 2006 at 11:45 am
Isn’t there also supposed to be a rum coming from Jimmy in the future? [i:926f46e29e]cool ![/i:926f46e29e]

If Corona really did dump Buffett due to Landshark Lager than this is the big news…something got very nasty behind the scenes between A-B and Modelo (brewers of Corona) since A-B owns nearly half of Modelo. Somebody has some very serious explaining to do….
December 21st, 2006 at 1:25 pm
And what about all those comp tickets for concerts given out to Corona employees? Now they’ll have to get tickets just like us peons !!
I wonder if anybody got a job at a Corona distributor just for concert tickets? hmmmm….
December 21st, 2006 at 1:26 pm
now you’ll need one at a Busch distributor.
December 21st, 2006 at 1:48 pm
My new found Love for Busch
December 21st, 2006 at 1:54 pm
I thought you had a long-standing one.
December 21st, 2006 at 3:40 pm
that was Jagermeister
December 21st, 2006 at 5:40 pm
Ehhh the silver tequila isn’t bad after you’ve had about 6 or 7 margaritas (give me a Jameson’s on the rocks instead)… Corona – it’s OK in a pinch or if it’s free. Hopefully this beer is an improvement on Corona. Oh wait it’s an AB product – nevermind
December 21st, 2006 at 6:02 pm
a) if you have to suck back 6-7 of something to make it taste good…
b) you make it sound like dating your friend’s sister..
December 21st, 2006 at 7:37 pm
That’s what we homebrewers and beer snobs call "canoe beer," because it’s like making love in a canoe – f*ckin’ close to water.
Sounds like anyone who didn’t think Corona was good enough, probably won’t like this stuff either.
I’ll bet they try to sell it for $7.99/six pack too, keeping the pricing in line with things like the Frozen Concoction Maker. Wait for it to hit Costco for $3.98/six pack in a case.

December 21st, 2006 at 8:07 pm
well.. in states that don’t have State Minimum Pricing regs in place keeping the price of beer artificially-high.
December 21st, 2006 at 8:08 pm
believe it or not, but AB was making a semi-decent, large-brewery stout a year ago. Not incredible, but probably not priced like Guinness or Samuel Smith either.
December 21st, 2006 at 9:14 pm
Walked through Margaritaville Orlando this evening and talked to a server..they are already selling it at the restaurant…test period probably?
December 21st, 2006 at 9:17 pm
Buffett and Corona had been operating on an implied contract.
December 21st, 2006 at 9:45 pm
Corona’s usual ticket recipients had to look to M’ville takillya for comp tickets in TPA this year. It’s also why we had hundreds of ticket banners and thousands of PH Party Headquarters buttons to give away. They were dumping it but we weren’t supposed to tell yet.
December 21st, 2006 at 10:43 pm
I was at a CIP this evening and there were little cards for Lone Palm Ale on the hostess stand. Interesting. Took a quick glance around and didn’t see any Corona anywhere.
December 21st, 2006 at 11:12 pm
Maybe we can hire the Bandit
8) 8)
December 22nd, 2006 at 11:27 am
FYI, CIP sells Island Ale which is brewed in Chippewa Falls, Wlsconsin…not LPA which is an AB product. Two different animals….
December 22nd, 2006 at 11:58 am
yep, Island Ale is a Leinie’s product, and by extension: a Miller product.
December 22nd, 2006 at 3:39 pm
Actually, no, that’s pretty weak stuff.
December 22nd, 2006 at 3:47 pm
heck, skip the beer, drink whiskey!!!!
:wench: or drink a shot of whiskey and then a beer.
It’s all good!
December 22nd, 2006 at 4:47 pm
Near Beer!!
December 22nd, 2006 at 7:21 pm
beer for 15 year olds to train for the real stuff…
December 28th, 2006 at 3:02 pm
Just tried it yesterday at MV – Key West. Sorry to say it tasted weak and undrinkable. Very water downed. Sorry to say.
December 28th, 2006 at 3:04 pm
I’m heading over to M’ville-Orlando in a few hours to try it, but must admit I’m not expecting to be impressed.
December 28th, 2006 at 3:07 pm
it’s a training beer… gets you ready for the real thing.. say about 7a.
December 28th, 2006 at 3:11 pm
for those who have tried it, how does it compare to Corona (which so many people also consider undrinkable…
)
December 28th, 2006 at 3:17 pm
Hey there SGH, we’ve at least seen a Landshark beer, haven’t we?
Jimmy had one, sort-of, in Aspen. He traded it for an empty Corona. Maybe that’s a sign that he doesn’t care for it??

December 28th, 2006 at 3:23 pm
I like Corona (a lot) and will be having Landshark and Corona tonight, I’ll post opinions later this evening
December 28th, 2006 at 3:27 pm
Welcome to Buffett News, Anthony!
Joined 2.5 years ago and today you found something to say…
Just teasin’…
Very sorry to hear that about the Landshark Lager… will know to stay away from it.
December 28th, 2006 at 5:01 pm
carolinagirl,
Greetings from Key West. This is just the first time I’ve had something worth saying! I have posted photo’s in the past. Figured that I could post some info with cardinal knowledge of the discussion.
:pirate:
Fins up!
Anthony
December 28th, 2006 at 5:07 pm
That never stopped the rest of us.
December 28th, 2006 at 5:36 pm
Wow, two posts in one day… There’s no stopping ya now!!!
Keep sharing your info… I wish I was in Key West!!! How long will you be there and where else have you been besides Margaritaville? My photo below with Mac was taken outside the MV KW the last time I was there Thanksgiving two years ago.
As Larry says, don’t let not having something worth saying stop ya.
Let’s just totally hijack this thread…
No better not, it’s in the News section and was started by phjim the webmeister himself… Just be sure to mention Landshark Lager as often as possible… do they sell it in Hogsbreath Saloon? How about at the Chart Room? Do some research for us while you’re in Key West!
Also looking forward to z-man’s Corona comparisons!
December 28th, 2006 at 6:05 pm
nobody hijacks threads around here…
December 28th, 2006 at 6:19 pm
You [i:a2caf8d76a]are [/i:a2caf8d76a]trying to be nice this year, aren’t you… [smilie=battingeyes.gif]
December 28th, 2006 at 7:15 pm
I am testing a theory…
December 28th, 2006 at 9:52 pm
Well,
I went in expecting to dislike the beer.
It comes in a clear bottle; but instead of the bottles having the graphics printed on the bottle, they are stick on decals (which you can peel off) – hopefully they will have printed bottles soon.
As for the beer; it was served with a lime slice like Corona. I drank it without the lime and was impressed! The beer actually has some nice flavor to it
. I had a Corona (no lime) at the same time for comparison, and the LandShark puts the Corona to shame. The Corona without lime has very little flavor, the LandShark has a nice light grain flavor to it.
I then tried ‘em both with lime. The Corona was then nice, but the LandShark really didn’t need the lime to give it flavor.
December 28th, 2006 at 10:30 pm
Interesting…
I kind of like Coronas, so I shall have to try it!
December 28th, 2006 at 10:33 pm
I like Corona a lot – there is a case in the refrigerator nearly all the time, with limes close by.
I’m embarrassed to say I thought the LandShark was much better beer.
December 29th, 2006 at 8:52 am
If the Z-Meister gives LandShark the "Phins Up" then what are us beer consumers waiting for? Roadtrip to get some LandShark Lager ASAP!!
December 29th, 2006 at 9:05 am
Most excellent news!!
Now, how do we get our hands on it??
December 29th, 2006 at 9:27 am
Were here till Sunday AM. My wife and I have been a 1/2 dozen times or so in the past 8-9 years. In our younger days we would have visited the bars along Duval. Now, with 2 children (6 years old and 18 months old) our bar crawling days are over.
I’m not that keen on going to these establishments with children. I can’t believe some of the people that I see dragging kids into a bar.
Since we have been here so many times in the past my wife and I could be tour guides for the island. We now just mostly relax at the resort. We did get a kick out of the new Pirate Soul museum/attraction in downtown and are visiting some of our favorite restaurants for dinner/lunch.
December 29th, 2006 at 10:41 am
Thanks for the pics z-man!! I like the looks of it a lot!!
And I’m sure I’ll like the flavor too… my tastebuds aren’t overly discerning when it come to beer! The more watery, less like "real beer", the better!
December 29th, 2006 at 10:45 am
And yes, welcome to BN Anthony! Come on in, the water’s fine!
December 29th, 2006 at 10:46 am
It looks very [i:db63f115d5]colorful[/i:db63f115d5] !
Can’t wait to taste it.
December 29th, 2006 at 11:32 am
IMO it tastes better than Corona. Has its own taste without the fruit. I had a chance to sample it in Vegas during the 10/28 concert during a Landshrak promotion.
Can’t wait until it is widely distrubuted.
January 5th, 2007 at 12:34 pm
Huh. Looks like a Corona. It’s rather obvious what’s going on there.
August 9th, 2012 at 7:43 am
Thanks for the article. My partner and i have usually seen that the majority of people are wanting to lose weight simply because wish to show up slim along with attractive. On the other hand, they do not often realize that there are many benefits to losing weight as well. Doctors declare that over weight people are afflicted by a variety of illnesses that can be perfectely attributed to the excess weight. Fortunately that people who’re overweight in addition to suffering from numerous diseases can help to eliminate the severity of their illnesses simply by losing weight. It is possible to see a continuous but identifiable improvement with health whenever even a slight amount of weight loss is obtained.
