There will be an exhibit at the Key West Art and Historical Society’s Custom House Museum in association with the release of his new photo book from The Ketch & Yawl Press. The exhibit, "Key West in "Black and White" opens with a reception from 5:30-7:30 p.m. Nov. 2, with Corcoran and other guests present.
Buffett fans in town for the Meeting of Minds Parrothead Convention will get free access to the event at the Custom House by presenting their backstage pass.
He (Corcoran) also has credit on seven Jimmy Buffett album covers that feature his photos, including "Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes;" "Son of a Son of a Sailor;" "Volcano;" and "Coconut Telegraph." Corcoran is also the man behind the lens for the official Jimmy Buffett calendar.
Corcoran, who befriended Buffett when country-singer Jerry Jeff Walker introduced him to Key West, co-wrote the Buffett hit songs "Cuban Crime of Passion" and the stadium favorite "Fins."

From the Tennessean: "Jimmy Buffett likes Exit/In as his new venue of choice" (thanks to Allen for passing that along to us)
If Buffett again includes Nashville on his summer concert tour, he has already picked out the venue. Sommet Center? Naah. Ryman Auditorium? Think smaller. Buffett likes the Exit/In.
"I played there the second weekend it opened (in 1971), the Friday and Saturday night shows," said Buffett, who was in town for the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame induction ceremonies Sunday night. We were inclined to think he was kidding, until he added, "I just played a show at a 400-seat club in Paris, so the Exit/In is not out of the plan." Buffett played 10 shows at Exit/In
Visit the Set List Database to see shows that Jimmy played at the Exit/In in the 1970’s.
More information is available at the Exit/In website: Owsley Manier tells the story of getting the club ready to open (in 1971), before the stage was even finished, when it was just "a couple of two-by-fours and some plywood." A man walked through the street door–not the famous rear entrance that gave the club its name–and asked for an audition. He walked onto the half-finished stage in cutoffs, played a couple of songs, and Manier said, "That’s cool, you’re hired. What’s your name?" It was Jimmy Buffett, fresh from the college circuit and ready to start a run as one of the Exit/In’s first hot young acts.
The Tennessean has an article on Mac McAnally and others being inducted into the Nashville Songwriters Hall of Fame: "It’s writers’ turn to be honored for songs".
At night’s end, Buffett inducted his friend, sometimes-producer and Coral Reefer band member McAnally into the Hall. McAnally’s hits include Ricky Van Shelton’s "Crime Of Passion," Alabama’s "Old Flame" and Sawyer Brown’s "All These Years." "I wake up every day with a song in my heart, and then I try to get it (out there)," McAnally said. "I am taken aback with this honor."
There’s also an article "Fan in Paradise: A meeting with Jimmy Buffett".
What is Buffett’s favorite McAnally song? “I go for the obscure ones, like Tumorhead.” And his favorite McAnally song to perform at his concerts? “Oyster and Pearls, although we don’t do that one much anymore.”
“I cherish our mutual respect and background for Southern literature. That is where I think our chemistry comes from,” Buffett said of McAnally. “I kinda wanted him involved in all aspects of the band and the songwriting was part of that.”
And Sunday night I decided that It’s My Job is my favorite McAnally-written, Buffett-performed song. Shaking hands with both of them is just part of doing my job.
| From CMT: In inducting McAnally, Buffett noted, "Mac writes like he’s the love child of William Faulkner and Flannery O’Connor. His music is the background music of my life." McAnally, a longtime member of Buffett’s Coral Reefers band, told the crowd, "I historically hold myself in low regard, but for this one night, I’ll put that aside and trust that you all know what you’re doing." |
Jimmy’s sister visited the sunken remains of her grandfather’s schooner, the Chiquimula: Lucy Buffett pays visit to shipwreck
"It’s all legend in our family," said Buffett, whose brother is singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett, known for his accounts of islands, ships and seafarers. "My dad learned to walk on the deck of his father’s ship."
"He was very much a gentleman," Lucy Buffett said of the captain. "He was stern. He was a master."
Captain Buffett, a master mariner respected along the Gulf Coast and known as "Foo Foo" to his grandchildren, had a hard time staying on dry land, often leaving for the open waters for years at a time, Lucy Buffett said.
