From Advertising Age: "Other Brews May Have Corona Singing Blues"
Corona has long been miles away from the ordinary — and the competition. But for the first time in 16 years, the seemingly unstoppable Mexican import is actually seeing sales decline.
Wall Street analysts and some of Corona’s rivals point to a frothing head of new or reinvigorated brands that appeal to traditional Mexican import drinkers — including Dos Equis, Miller Chill, the forthcoming Bud Light Lime and even Corona’s resurgent sibling Modelo Especial — as creating a more difficult competitive environment than the No. 1 import has previously faced.
A-B last year also launched Landshark Lager, a niche brand that swiped Corona’s longtime Jimmy Buffet tour sponsorship and nosed its way into Mr. Buffett’s Margaritaville restaurant chain.

In Michigan you can blame this too.
March 19th, 2008 at 11:32 pm
Who is this Mr. Buffet they speak of
March 19th, 2008 at 11:35 pm
How dare they compare Dos Equis to the other "Mexican Beers"…..it is in a class by itself (Negro Modelo would also be in that class if it had been on the list)

Landshark is really good too! But my fave for all time is still Leinenkuegel’s Sunset Wheat. MMMM………..
March 20th, 2008 at 9:25 am

yes

I think it comes back, once again, at least in part, to the economy. At $7.99 or so a sixpack, it’s not cheap, as beer goes. I don’t buy as much Corona as I used to. I’m not one of the people who substituted Landshark, I just buy less premium beer than I used to. Once in a while I’ll pick up Corona, Dos Equis or Negro Modelo, but as the exception rather than the rule. And somewhere along the line I also decided to buy American, so I buy more Sam Adams and less Mexican.

here in OH, prices on even the domestics is in the $7-8.50 range.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:09 am

March 20th, 2008 at 10:12 am
Never look at Bud… that might be 6ish. but Leinie’s is $8
March 20th, 2008 at 10:17 am
I bought a 6 pk of Shiner last night for $6.82.
March 20th, 2008 at 10:20 am
We’ve switched to gluten-free beer whereas we used to either have a) a keg full of something microbrew or b) Corona.
March 20th, 2008 at 11:07 am
Sounds vaguely familiar….
March 20th, 2008 at 11:39 am
$7.59 the last time I looked.

In Michigan, the REAL reason is The Good Doctor has been on a diet and has cut back on drinking!
March 20th, 2008 at 2:45 pm
((((((Dori)))))))
March 20th, 2008 at 7:28 pm
I stopped at Alabama Jack’s back in December, asked for a Corona and they were sold out. Offered me a Landshark instead.
March 20th, 2008 at 8:42 pm
so glad that you were there to share that moment with me… [smilie=battingeyes.gif]
March 20th, 2008 at 8:46 pm
you were good.;)
March 20th, 2008 at 8:49 pm
I did cut back on drinking, so that might be why.
Not a big fan of Land Shark, it’s better than Coors light or Miller lite. I work in Boston, while driving in the city I see pallets and pallets full of cases going to package stores and bars every day. I have been to bars when they run out of Corona and Corona Light. We must drink more.
March 21st, 2008 at 10:35 am
I still drink Corona, but I prefer Pacifico when I can get it. :pirate:
March 21st, 2008 at 4:24 pm
I love Landshark, but I’m also a cheap fella. 50 cents a beer is what I average!
March 21st, 2008 at 7:16 pm
Corona tends to give me a headache the next morning, but it’s not too bad if you include lemon.
Seriously Landshark ain’t that bad but no beer IMO compares to the ones put out by Gordon Biersch.

I am a responsible parrothead girl….Corona ON SALE in San Antonio today for
I have always loved Corona w/lime…today, on sale in San Antonio, $16 for a 12/pk $1 off, total of $17/12 pk)….sorry, no can do. Ever since the beer distributors renegotiated the distribution of Corona, right here in San Antonio, Texas….the price has skyrocketed. I refuse to pay that price for the beer I once loved. I can have Tecate, Dos XXX, Landshark Lager, and they all taste good with lime. I have to protest the American redistribustion of a Mexican beer which should not cost more than any other imported!
