From one of our members (Cane Garden Bay): On Friday September 12th I was a volunteer at the Surfers Healing Event in Montauk, NY. It was a wonderful event, I got to talk with Mr. Buffett for about 40 minutes!! He was great to talk to. After the event we went to set up at the Second House Restaurant. Jimmy was performing that night, Hawaiian Ed opened up, then Nancy Atlas, then Jimmy, Mac & Russ Kunkel (on percussion) took the stage under the small Landshark tent, it was raining hard, but they were in great spirits, Jimmy was having a lot of rum onstage and was in rare form that evening. I was sitting about 4 feet away from him! I couldn’t beleive it.
Here is the setlist, it’s not in the correct order but here it is (i may have missed 1 or 2 song)
Wino & I Know
Why Don’t we Get Drunk
Sitting Here in Limbo (Jimmy Cliff)
Banana Republics
Uncle John’s Band
Margaritaville (with the lost verse)
Southern Cross
Fins
Come Monday
Pencil Thin Mustache
Jamaica Mistaka
It’s a Crazy World (song by Mac)
Pirate Looks at 40
Son of a Son of a Sailor
The Weather is Here
Growing Older But Not Up
Heart of Gold
Changes in Latitudes
One Particular Harbor
Regabilly Hill
Great performance!! Jimmy talked a lot and told the story of a Margaritaville coming to Dubai! I was one of the only ones sitting in front getting wet the whole time and at the end of the show Jimmy handed me the bottle of rum that he was drinking, he said “here’s some rum to warm you up after all the rain”. Great gift!!
Some photos from Jimmy’s performance are available in the Photo Gallery

Some photos of Jimmy honoring novelist Herman Wouk and singing songs from the musical “Don’t Stop the Carnival” are now available in the Photo Gallery. Jimmy told stories about how he met Herman and the collaboration process for Carnival. Then he played a montage of music from the musical “Don’t stop the Carnival”. You could see Herman Wouk singing along to “Public Relations”. Also included in the montage was “Green Flash at Sunset”, “Champagne Si, Aqua No”, “Up on the Hill” (which Jimmy said was his favorite song from the musical), and “Time to Go Home” among others. (thanks to Steve G for passing along the photos and article)

According to the Washington Post, Jimmy Buffett honored novelist Herman Wouk and sang some songs from the musical “Don’t Stop the Carnival”: “Wouk & Remembrance: Library of Congress Again Honors Novelist”
But it was the sockless Buffett — bounding onstage, he promptly shed his shoes as well — who offered the evening’s most startling change of pace.
“People have asked me for years, ‘How the hell did you and Herman Wouk get together?’ ” Buffett said. Long story short, he’d somehow gotten the idea of turning Wouk’s “Don’t Stop the Carnival” — in which a New York PR guy plays out midlife fantasies on a tropical isle — into a Broadway musical.
So Buffett wrote Wouk a letter. “Who are you?” the author replied. But he eventually signed on, despite the fact that he didn’t know what reggae was. “Don’t Stop the Carnival” ran for a few weeks in Miami in 1997.
“We never made it to Broadway, but the carnival is still happening,” Buffett said. Then he proved it with a medley of songs from their collaboration. Seated onstage, Wouk smiled and mouthed the lyrics.
USA Today has a nice review “Jimmy Buffett reunites with Herman Wouk
But Buffett’s shoes weren’t fitting. Saying he was “terribly nervous” and remarking on “the tough crowd,” he took off his navy blue blazer and his black loafers and sang a medley of Carnival songs he said he had put together yesterday in his Sag Harbor, N.Y., studio. Wouk smiled and sang along with some of the words. “We never made it to Broadway,” said Buffett, grinning at the elderly Wouk, “but the carnival is still happening.”

According to the New York Times, Jimmy Buffett will help to honor Herman Wouk, the author of the novel “Don’t Stop the Carnival”. The ceremony takes place in Washington D.C. on Wednesday September 10th.
The Supreme Court justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg and the musician Jimmy Buffett will help honor Herman Wouk, 93, the author of “The Caine Mutiny” and “The Winds of War,” among many other novels, when he receives the first lifetime achievement award for fiction writing from the Library of Congress on Wednesday. Martha Raddatz, the ABC News correspondent, will join other participants in reading from Mr. Wouk’s work at the event at the Library of Congress, which is free and open to the public.

Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band ended the six date East Coast leg of “The Year of Still Here” with the second show at the Comcast Center in Mansfield MA. Jimmy has performed 47 shows at the venue originally known as Great Woods going back to 1986.
The Set List and Comments are now available. The set list included some changes including “The Weather Is Here, Wish You Were Beautiful”, “God’s Own Drunk”, and “Stars on the Water”.
Jimmy finished the show with the song “Trying To Reason With Hurricane Season”. A perfect song to end the show because Hanna had caused the concert to start at 3:00 PM, and the lawn people where caught in down pours throught out the show.

The Boston Globe has a review of last night’s show at the Comcast Center in Mansfield MA: “Buffett is still the life of the party”
The gates of the Comcast Center opened at 7 last night, but the parking lot was open for tailgating at 11 in the morning. Who else could be in town but Jimmy Buffett? Faced with the choice of the Republican convention or the mayor of Margaritaville’s annual visit, the sold-out crowd picked the latter. Both were headlined by bald mavericks with the ocean in their veins; it didn’t even take much squinting for Buffett to look like the other guy, the T-shirt, shorts, and bare feet notwithstanding.
“I accept the nomination!” Buffett declared early on, ignoring the fact that he’d already taken office.
The Boston Herald has an article: “Frozen assets: Margaritaville magnate Jimmy Buffett turns boozy tunes into retail gold”
The Set List and Comments from those who listened to the show are now available.

Jimmy Buffett made Vanity Fair’s list of the world’s 100 most powerful and influential people (“The New Establishment” – October 2008 issue). He comes in at number 97.
SPHERE OF INFLUENCE: In the past year, the hardest-working slacker in show business published his seventh book, Swine Not?, released a live-concert DVD, partnered in an Atlantic City casino, and continued the nonstop touring that keeps the margarita money flowing in—an estimated $35 million.
