Jimmy writes about his recent trip from Sag Harbor to Florida in his van called “The Green Tomato”. Some interesting stops along the way included a visit to the Wright Brothers National monument in Kill Devil Hills, lunch at “Awful Arthurs”, and catching some waves on his SUF board at the Outer Banks. Read Jimmy’s diary from the trip, and check out the exclusive photos at Margaritaville.com.

The Birmingham News has an interview with Mac: “Mac McAnally regards his CMA win with humor, humility”
Hey, Mac, will you have any specific responsibilities to fulfill during your reign over the next 12 months, like Miss America does?
“Well, I don’t have to wear a tiara or anything,” McAnally says, laughing. “But I get to play music every day, and I’d still be playing music, anyway, even without the award. I guess I’ll play harder next year.”
“I’m honored,” he says. “I was happy to be named in that pile of players. I’m a jack of a few trades, going back and forth between playing and record producing and other things. Most of the ones nominated for this award are full-time pickers. When I won, I didn’t understand it. I thought it was a typo.”
Continuing his collaboration with Buffett is a given, McAnally says, and he’s become an honorary member of Strait’s studio band, nicknamed the Critters. There’s another “Mac record” on the horizon, as well.
“The songs are all written,” McAnally says. “I just have to record them.”
McAnally’s joshing, of course, and later admits that he takes performing music, and enjoying music, very seriously. Always has, always will.
“I haven’t played yet as CMA Musician of the Year,” he says. “We’ll see what kind of face I make.”

Jimmy Buffett doing the Gator chomp in the locker room after Florida’s victory. A video is available at Youtube (Jimmy appears toward the end of the video).
From the Miami Herald: ‘Bama native Buffett takes in Gator blowout and
Alabama native and musician Jimmy Buffett attended Florida’s 56-6 victory against South Carolina.
Buffett was on the field after the game and even joined the Gators and coach Urban Meyer in a postgame locker-room celebration. When Meyer emerged from the Gators’ football facility for his postgame news conference, Buffett’s classic song Margaritaville could be heard blaring from the locker room’s speakers.
From Florida Today: “Buffett enjoys Gators’ big day”
“It’s great to be back in Gainesville seeing the Gators playing this well,” Buffett said, before heading into the Florida locker room. “It’s been a long time. I like what Coach Meyer is doing here. This has just been a lot of fun tonight.”
And then Buffett gave Meyer a thrill almost as big as his offense. He joined the Gators in the locker room. You see, Buffett is the only music he listens to — ever. In his car, at home, at work.
And Buffett? Before exiting the locker room, he talked with Tebow.
“He said it was a pleasure meeting me and he loves watching me and hopefully we’ll see him in Miami,” Tebow said. “I was going to (ask him to sing) but I didn’t.”
Miami is the home of the national title game this season. Three more wins and Buffett promises to come and visit again. Meyer’s favorite Buffett song is, “It’s Five O’Clock Somewhere.” If this keeps up, Jimmy better get his vocal chords ready.
Real Kiteboarding has an interesting article with pictures and video of Jimmy spending some time off surfing in North Carolina: “Jimmy Buffett cruises the Outer Banks”
On Tuesday, November 11th, Jimmy Buffett caught up with us again at the new REAL Flagship Store in Cape Hatteras, NC. Jimmy was on a road trip from New York to Charleston, SC in his vegetable oil powered diesel 4×4 van nicknamed “The Green Tomato”.
Jimmy’s trusty Stewart surfboard had seen a lot of time in the water and in the sun, so it was time for Buffett to tighten up with a new stick from the board loft at REAL. Jimmy chose a Surftech Robert August “What I Ride” wood veneer 9’0, a timeless classic that we hope lasts as long and gets him into as many waves as the Stewart did.
Mac McAnally wins the 2008 CMA award for Musician of the Year. It marks his first CMA win. He was nominated in the same category last year.
Mac scored his biggest hit single in 1977 when his song “It’s a Crazy World” peaked at #37 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Jimmy Buffett has recorded a number of his songs (some co-written by Jimmy) including: “In the City”, “Coast of Carolina”, “License to Chill”, “It’s My Job”, “Semi-True Stories”, “Changing Channels”, “Last Man Standing”, and “Tonight I Just Need My Guitar”. McAnally also wrote the Top 40 country music single “Back Where I Come From” which was recorded by Kenny Chesney.
Mac McAnally’s song “Down the Road” was recently released as a single from Kenny Chesney’s album “Lucky Sun“. Below is video of the two performing a duet.
The merger between SIRIUS Satellite Radio and XM is good news for those who listen to Radio Margaritaville. XM Radio has begun broadcasting Radio Margaritaville on XM channel 55. Radio Margaritaville will continue to be available on SIRIUS 31.
Live Daily has a review of the Mohegan Sun Show: “Live Review: Jimmy Buffett at Margaritaville, Uncasville, CT”
After thrilling tens of thousands of “parrotheads” at venues across the globe this year, Buffett repaired to the shore of the Thames River, bringing an hour or so of tropical sunshine into an otherwise gray and dreary fall afternoon in Eastern Connecticut.
With Boston Red Sox power hitter David “Big Papi” Ortiz looking on beaming, Cape Verde’s own Ilo Ferreira was invited to share the spotlight during “Volcano.”
The encore would not have been complete without two of Buffett’s biggest hits and most popular concert staples: “Fins,” and of course, “Margaritaville.” And just when everyone thought the show was over, Buffett strapped on “one more guitar” and took a few moments to remember Anthony “Tony” Tarracino, a former mayor of Key West and legendary bar owner of “Captain Tony’s Saloon”–whose life was memorialized in a Buffett song–who died a few days earlier at the age of 92.
“He had 14 kids by eight wives,” Buffett recalled, “so canonization, maybe not–but still very cool!”
Then the audience got one more chance to sing along, memorializing “Captain Tony” as the notes of “Last Mango in Paris” danced across the bar to wrap up this one-of-a-kind concert experience that most Jimmy Buffett fans only dream about.
Some photos from Satuday’s show at the Margaritaville Cafe at the Mohegan Sun are now available in the Photo Gallery. Thanks to Chris (Redlordamazon) for posting the photos.
The Captain Tony special on Time After Island Time, part 1 of 2
Saloon Owner, Storyteller, Mayor, and the Salt of Key West
Anthony Tarracino, 1916-2008
This interview with Captain Tony Tarracino is being rebroadcast in memorial to a friend who has touched the lives of so many. It was recorded in Key West, Florida the place on earth that he loved so very much when he was 88 years old and was originally broadcast on Radio Margaritaville. We wanted people who met Captain Tony and also those who never got the chance to hear the story of a man who has made the world a better place and as he said “has made every heart beat count.” From the very beginnings in Elizabeth, New Jersey–the story is a fascinating one, sure to inspire.
Our lives change like the weather but a legend never dies.
