From Margaritaville.com: A brand new studio album, named for an old colonial era train station/hotel Jimmy ran across in Timbuktu, Mali during a trip to the “Festival In The Desert,” will feature Summerzcool, A Lot To Drink About, Surfing In a Hurricane and 9 other new songs!

1. Nobody From Nowhere
2. Wings
3. Big Top
4. Beautiful Swimmers
5. Turn Up The Heat and Chill The Rose
6. Summerzcool
7. Rhumba Man
8. We Learned To Be Cool From You
9. Surfing In a Hurricane
10. Life Short Call Now
11. Buffet Hotel
12. A Lot To Drink About

The title track has a strong West African influence and was conceived during that same trip to Mali for the music festival. “It was one of the best musical experiences of my life,” said Jimmy. The Buffet Hotel was the venue for the music scene that exploded in Mali after its independence in 1960.

In addition to the Coral Reefer Band, the album also includes guest artists Sonny Landreth, Jake Shimabukuro, Cedric Burnside, Steve “Lightnin’” Malcome and Toumani Diabate. Produced by Mike Utley and Mac McAnally, the release also features a 24-page booklet with lyrics, stories behind the song, and how Jimmy went to West Africa looking for stories, and returned with an album. “…Stories are still the things good songs are made of,” said Jimmy.

Buffet Hotel is available for pre-order at MailboatRecords.com, and will be available everywhere on December 8th! It is also available for pre-order at Amazon.com.

Jimmy Buffett did a concert in Las Vegas on October 22nd. It was a private show for Budweiser at the Hard Rock last Thursday night.

Here’s some quotes from Margaret & John:

“We were there WITH JIMMY!! We managed to get into his private show at the Hard Rock Hotel with great difficulty (don’t ask how)! It was a super show but he did not do an encore. He finished with “Fins” and that was it. We were probably the only few Parrot Heads in there. Think most of them in there were for the free entertainment and free Landshark lager. What a great night and we were so near the stage. This was worth coming to Las Vegas for.

Jimmy sang one of my favorite songs which was “Peanut Butter Conspiracy”. I can’t remember a lot of the songs he sang because I was so excited and in a trance.

Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band performed on Saturday at the Bridge School Benefit Concert at the Shoreline Amphitheater in Mountain View, CA. If you went to the show help us out with the Set List.

The San Jose Mercury News has a review of the show: “Bridge School Benefit 2009

It would be up to Jimmy Buffett, the mayor of “Margaritaville,” to really get the party started. The 62-year-old singer-songwriter, in his long-overdue Bridge debut, accomplished that task in fine fashion as he and his seven-piece Coral Reefer Band rolled out tender versions of “A Pirate Looks at Forty” and “Come Monday” as well as the tropical anthems “Volcano” and “Margaritaville.” They also played a cover of the Grateful Dead’s “Scarlet Begonias” – which the most-famous Deadhead in attendance, basketball great Bill Walton, dubbed as “excellent.” (Buffett performed only on Saturday, while comedian Adam Sandler filled that time slot on Sunday.)

From St. Hazards: Jimmy Buffett to celebrate our friend’s 60th anniversary in St. Barths

Back in 1949, 60 years ago, our goof friend Marius Stakelborough started a small bar in St. Barths called LeSelect. It’s become one of the most popular and well-known bars in the Caribbean. Marius has also become good friends with us at St. Hazards and even made the 2,000 mile journey to visit in 2006.

The big party to celebrate the 60th will be Nov. 6, 7 and 8th. Jimmy Bufett and Marius also have become good friends since Jimmy lived on St. Barths many years ago. He’s even bringing his entire Coral Reefer Band to put on a free concert as part of the party. Here’s the first look at the poster for this concert plus a few photos of LeSelect. The photo of Jimmy was taken at one of the beaches on St. Barths. You can see the St. Hazards flag on the inside view of LeSelect.

From the Cayman Free Press: “Armed robbery at Margaritaville

Two armed men held up Margaritaville shortly after it opened on Friday morning.

The robbers, one armed with a gun and the other with a knife, made their way to the office on the upper floor and ordered the female accountant at gunpoint to hand over cash.

The amount of money the robbers made off with in the 8.20am hold up is unknown. The men escaped through a back door that leads on to Cardinall Avenue.
