Part 3 of Jimmy’s OBX diary has been posted at Margaritaville.com
It was interesting to see Jimmy listing his rules that he operates by:
It is hard to stay under the radar these days where videos and photos have replaced autographs, so I guess I better take a moment to give you the rules by which I operate in that regard.
1) I won’t sign autographs when I am in the act of eating (drinking is okay). Eating is a sacrament to me, and something, which is never to be interrupted. In my world, it comes with the punishment of eternal damnation in the fires of hell (can’t get away from that Catholic thing).
2) As for photos, it all depends on your manners and what kind of mood I am in, and if I do take photos I ask that you keep them as personal keepsakes and not post them on the internet or blogs and not shared with the entire planet earth. A photo should be a keepsake, not a calling card.
3) Finally, I don’t want anybody bothering me when I am at home and that includes on my boat. Other than that, I feel that I am fair game and it is all just a part of the job, and I have found the vast majority of the time, fans I meet out there couldn’t be more respectful and mannerly and I do appreciate that. I still have a bit of a problem with that celebrity stuff as I do still only see myself as a beach boy, ex-altar boy from Mobile, who worked hard and got lucky and not much more. To me, it is just my job.

The harder you work, the luckier you get!

Man, what’s the point of getting a picture with him if you can’t post it on BuffettNews???

Sounds fair to me!!!

Sounds fair to me too.some celebs won’t even do that. Jimmy has been great about being a reg guy & not having an entourage, so b glad about that & respect his privacy. He’s.right about the pix.He isn’t asking 4 much..just a few limits. He’s never a snob. Can’t blame him for wanting a little peace & quiet when he eats @ least.

Thanks, Jimmy for the info…It IS NOT too much to ask for a little respect! If I ever get the chance to meet you in person, I will be happy to shake your hand, let you know how much your music has meant to me over the years, have a photo and be on my way, the happiest person on the planet! Thanks for 30+ years of my favorite music!

Thanks, Jimmy. I just can’t believe I spent a WEEK in Mobile last July (my son lives there) and didn’t get the chance to take a picture! I went to the Dew Drop Inn, Gulfshores to LuLu’s, Biloxi where your new place is under construction, and to New Orleans hoping I’d turn a corner and just run into you but no such luck! Then you come to my “neck of the woods” (or at least close to it –I’m a NC native) and I didn’t know you were on the OBX or I would have been burning tracks on Highway 64 to get there! When are ya going back for Part 4??

He has to know that 99.9999999 percent of all pictures he poses for are going to end up on either Facebooklet, MySpace, Flickr or someone’s blog. No ifs ands or buts!

I’m a retired NC State Trooper. I met Jimmy at the Ral/Dur airport in 1994 when he was doing a concert at Walnut Creek in Raleigh. I stayed back until the appropriate time and then asked him for autograph and picture and gladly concented. I traveled to Walnut Creek and because I was in uniform I had the unique chance to stay backstage. Everything you have ever heard about Jimmy is true,(well not that stuff). He was great. He was just one of the guys. If you hadn’t know he was the star, you would have thought he was just a stage hand. Thanks Jim for all the memories.
