From Scott French: It only took us 4+ years to finally make the plates a reality but yesterday the South Carolina Department of Motor Vehicles officially release a PARROTHEAD specialty license plate. All proceeds from the plate will be used to support the Palmetto Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association and the Upstate SC Chapter of the Alzheimer’s Association.

All Parrotheads will be moving to SC. Nice going getting it for Alzheimer’s Benefit. Jimmy should be proud.

  5. 5. Amz Says:

How did you guys make that happen in SC? I’d like to find out if the Ohio DMV would follow suit…

  6. 6. Trevor Rowe Says:

We need Jimmy to visit ‘downunder’ so we can arrange a Aussie license plate!!

  8. 8. Jerry B Says:

  9. 9. Ken Says:

I wish we had one in the KY

  10. 10. Jason D. Says:

Has anyone heard if the S.C. DMV will be selling “souvenir” plates for out of staters?

  11. 11. Julie Says:

VA had the first one, but I don’t think ours goes to benefit any organization. It is cool that the SC one does!

  12. 12. Steve P Says:

This is great for the State of SC! I wonder if we can get this going in Indiana? We usually sell out Jimmy’s annual show in Noblesville in less than 20 minutes. That’s 24,000+ screaming Parrotheads climbing out of the corn fields and onto the “beach” that brother Jim brings in every year. With that kind of support, we should be able to get this done. Maybe a fellow SC Parrothead could help us organize this effort?

  13. 13. Bicycle Bill Says:

Jerry, you should be able to have your registration changed over to a ‘Parrothead’ plate. Usually all you need to do is submit your current registration along with a request for the specialty plate, and pay the difference in fees.

*NOTE: There might also be a small fee assessed for processing and/or issuing a new title with the new plate info. Contact your DMV center for more details.

Jason, at least in Wisconsin we don’t offer “souvenir” plates — can you imagine the mess if someone would buy a ‘souvenir’ plate and then try to operate a car, especially out-of-state, with it? However, most DMV offices have some sample or specimen plates on the walls (with the word “SAMPLE” or “SAMPL” where the numbers would be) so people can see what some of them look like. Maybe you can find someone who works in the SC DMV and he/she can ‘liberate’ one of the samples for you……

  15. 15. Robert Says:

The State of Ohio will create a special plate if an organization submits a petition with at least 500 signatures from Ohio vehicle owners and a proposed design. There must be at least 500 plates sold in the first 2 years the plate is available or they will discontinue it. I think that there are at LEAST 500 Parrot Heads in the state of Ohio. Just go to the next Jimmy Buffett concert and cruise the parking lot. Any volunteers?
