Kinda catchy. I like it.
But they will probably “make it better” and it will lose it’s punch.
Hope it lasts longer than “We’re Still Here”. I liked that one too.
Looking forward to it in concert.

Needs some work. You want to rag on Bush and Cheney, that’s fine but what about Chris Dodd and Barney Frank? Its not all Republicans fault.

I a huge Jimmy fan. I’ll probably check out two shows this summer, but as a Republican, it’s difficult sometimes like this song for example. I think it’s a great song until he starts bashing Bush. John Rich just released “Shuttin’ Detroit Down” and didn’t make it a Republican/Democrat thing so it works. I would feel the same way about a Ted Nugent show. I would agree with Ted for the most part on issues, but I don’t want to hear political stuff at the show from either side of the isle.

I agree Phil. I have been a huge Buffett fan for 25 years. Going to my 23rd Buffett concert in April and probably 24th in Pa this summer, but I wish he would leave politics out of it.

I Think it must bug some of you that jimmy is a Democrate and Jimmy Speaks The Truth. It`s under W`s Watch 9/11 happened, two wars were started based on lies and the Greed Heads and Banksters on Wall Street have bankrupted America and You Tax Payers will be paying off the deficits for generations.Yes We Do Have a Lot To Drink About.

Lindsay,
Just like an artist on stage, this is not the forum to talk about how I so disagree with your thoughts on the George Bush administration. Obviously, you didn’t truly READ my post. I don’t pay to hear an artist’s views on stage. If they go on Fox or CNN, if they campaign for someone, God Bless them! They have every right to do so. I like then new song. I just think Jimmy could still get the point across without the Bush bash, that’s all. Lindsay, believe me if Jimmy supported George Bush and made fun of Obama in the music, you as a fan, would be upset about it. And yes, it would still bother me even if Jimmy was on my side of the isle. Ted Nugent is one of my favorite artists as well. He agrees with my politics, but I don’t care to hear about it on stage. One more quick note on that: Waving the flag or bring service men and women on stage? That’s cool no matter what you believe! God Bless America!

I am glad to see that Jimmy is getting back to writting music about things he believes. I am not saying I agree or disagree with Jimmy’s views, but I think it is great that these last two songs I have heard from the “probably not too soon” released album that he is singing about his views and ideas and the world. Not covering some song or doing country, or singing about the Hokie Pokie.

I think it’s a pretty catchy song. I know Jimmy is smart enough not to get too involved with politics in his songs. He has stated several times that he is an entertainer. I voted for W twice, and this song doesn’t strike me as a Bush bash, it seems pretty light hearted in nature. We all know of all the artists and how far some went to bash Bush. This song doesn’t take that tone to me.

9/11 happened less than 8 months after Bush took office. The planning for that attack plainly had to have happened while Slick Willie was in the White House.
Two wars? Even if I agree with the rhetoric that Bush lied about the WMDs in Irag (and FWIW, Hussein did have WMDs. He had some, and he used some. Maybe he used all he had during the Iraq-Iran war and the Iraq civil war, and had not yet been able to replenish his supply. Who knows?) So what’s the second one?
And the bottom started falling out when the dot-coms started to go to hell — again, the result of deregulation legislation passed during Clinton’s terms.

Having made my political post above, my comment on Jimmy’s new song — I think he’s got a crowd favorite on his hands for his summer tour.
February 17th, 2009 at 1:17 pm
Catchy song. I like it, for the most part. I wish *all* entertainers would leave politics out. I’m not paying $130/ticket to hear Jimmy (or anyone else, for that matter) speak his views on the political climate. I’ve had more than one show ruined by a political commentary in the midst of “entertainment.” I don’t want it from either side. I go to a show to be entertained, not lectured to.

I wish that Jimmy had not started to intergrate his politics into the escapism that is Margaritaville. I will hazard a guess that Jimmy has made more money in the past eight years of the Bush Cheney administration than any 8 year period of his career. I have always understood his politics differed from many of his loyal paying customers including me. To use his music and his concerts to rub our nose in the very things we are trying to escape from is unfortunate. Why after all these years insult his republican parrotheads? Is he consoling himself for being the staunchest capitalist and wants to wash his sins of selling out all these years. I want to clarify that I don’t fault him for developing himself as a brand and cashing in on a hungry public (I would be right behind him). Wether its three minutes of a new song or three hours of a Buffett concert please leave the politics on the shore and leave us out or you political agenda.
Fins to the left Fins to the right and let us choose on our own.
Always a fan…

To all of you offended by “The politics” in this song. I listened three times and I heard a single mention of Bush and Cheney in the song, and while the audio was hard to understand, all I heard was “Bush and Cheney are gone.” If I’m hearing it wrong I apologize.
But to me that is not preaching politics, that is mentioning current affairs.
I can’t think of the song, but I know there is a line mentioning “Presidential Pillow Talk” in reference to Clinton, are you all just as offended by that?
Come on, let’s not be so sensitive.
February 18th, 2009 at 8:56 pm
Most of the time JB is discusted with ALL politics.
He tends to just support certain persons running for office.
People like Lindsay that try and make him a flamming liberal left-wing commie dem, when he isn’t.
He is more a libertarian.
As he says, he is out there spending our money foolishly.
That includes supporting some candidates that we may not like.
I can live with that.
Just as long as he doesn’t turn into Springstoned or Mellonchump.

I know, lets get the lyrics posted and we can all decide for ourselves.
Where’s the lyrics?
February 19th, 2009 at 4:03 pm
O.K., to answer my own question….http://www.buffettnews.com/resources/songs/?song=663
Jimmy is a bigger optimist than me if he is counting on massive government spending to “plug the hole”. It will only make it bigger.
Then where will that money come from? Hmmmm?
You got it folks. People that work for a living.
February 19th, 2009 at 4:37 pm
You know, after reading the lyrics, the song is just o.k.
The melody sounds a lot like “Hokey Pokey”.
I always find it funny when multi-millionare performers slam other rich people.
I guess they are the only ones that deserve to be rich.
And Jimmy is putting his faith in “Joe”.????
This is a guy that sports a big time combover. How sad is that.
Is he trying to fool someone with that?
If he lies about his hair, what else would he lie about.
At least Jimmy doesn’t hide the fact that he is bald.
February 23rd, 2009 at 12:27 pm
I find it interesting that Jimmy always tries to play the anti-greed line, ALL THE WHILE HE IS CHARGING $130 A TICKET SO HE CAN GO OUT AND PLAY OLD SONGS!!!!
People are already planning to boo him at the Dallas concert if he pulls this political crap.
February 23rd, 2009 at 12:46 pm
Jimmy attacks the bailouts in this song. YET HIS BOY OBAMA VOTED FOR THEM!!! And is pushing more of them!
Democrats said the bailout bill they pushed was OBAMA’S!
Jimmy is just another guy who plays music and knows NOTHING of policy. Or he would not attack OBAMA’S plan after he just campaigned for the idiot.
February 23rd, 2009 at 1:25 pm
Jimmy says’s Bush is tough on Terrorism and Obama isn’t!!!
Look at the line and watch how he sings it on the video.
Go figure…the stupid liberal can’t even get a bash right.
40 million a year and Buffett is still a dumba–.
February 23rd, 2009 at 3:23 pm
I love this song and can’t wait to hear him sing it at Alpine.
