A newsletter from StBarth.com mentions Jimmy Buffett will be performing at the 60th anniversary of Le Select restaurant on November 7th, 2009 (thanks to rc3175 and Rusty for passing that along)
Calling All Parrot Heads – The island is buzzing with the news that Jimmy Buffet will be playing on the dock in celebration of Le Select’s 60th Anniversary and in tribute to his long-time friend and bistro owner, Marius. Mark your calendars for Saturday, November 7, 2009. The celebration will carry on over the weekend (November 6-8).

I was in St-Barth couple of weeks ago. I spoke with 3 owners of restaurants very close from Marius, owner of Le Select. Weel! I dont think it is a rumour. He WILL be there…. so will we.
My Dear John offered me flying tickets to go after veryfing “the rumour”.

Do you have any more details? The last time this rumor surfaced I went ahead and got plane tickets and hotel rooms and then cancelled them when it turned out it was not true. This would be a great place to see him.

What was the occasion of that “maybe concert”?
The Select is the oldest bar of the island and Marius a “patriarch star”: they are both “institutions” in St-Barth. The Select 60th Birthday is probably as important as New Year’s Eve. It will be the 6th - 8th of November!
Jimmy Buffett was there for the 50th of the Select. An as said in previous message, 3 restaurateurs VERY close from Marius, told us how serious the “rumour” is!
On se verra a St-Barth!?

A couple of months ago a website announced that Buffett would be at this event. After a flurry of activity it was found out that it was just a rumor and the website removed the reference to Buffett performing. I don’t doubt that this is a major event, the question is will Buffett appear. I am making plans to come, and if he doesn’t show up we are still in St. Barts for a hell of a party. Can you provide any details on the 50th of the Select? Were tickets required? Was it a full concert or just a cameo appearance? Any details would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
David

Isabelle,
Sounds like your very familiar with the St. Barts area. My husband and I are also looking to go. Could you recommend some places to stay in/near ? We’ve never been and are not familiar with the area at all.
thanks,
Heather

David,
You already promised to by me a beer!! Great link to the show from 99, not sure I could have described it any better. This is going to be a great time Jimmy or no Jimmy, but I would be he will be there. Not a better place in the world to spend a birthday!!

Rusty, I will buy you all the beer that you can drink!! Are you still planning on being there? Do you have a place to stay and all that stuff?

Yes, I will be there. Never canceled my reservations from the first time. As I said, if he shows, he shows, if he doesn’t it is still going to be a great week. This is my favorite place on earth. Let me know if you need any info. We have rented a house for a week so it should be a blast. Stay in touch or give me an email address and I can help you out if you need it. If you haven’t done so already you should get your flight booked especially from SXM to St. Barth or the ferry or whatever. Last time I had to charter a power boat to get there as all other means of transportation were booked.

Rusty, appreciate the help. I think what we are going to do is charter a sailboat out of St. Martin and just sail over to St. Barths for the weekend. That way we don’t have to worry about a place to stay or getting from SXM to St. Barts. Working on final logistics. Can I post my email address here? If so I will, if not we can figure out how to trade email addresses.
Like you said if he shows great, if not it will still be a hell of a party.

Found this is a newsletter from a hotel booking company. They are saying that Buffett will peform in St. Barths….
Island News
Don’t forget Le Select’s 60th Anniversary. The celebration will run through the weekend of November 6-8, and the highlight – in addition to lots of cheeseburgers and beer – will be a concert by the bistro’s biggest fan, the one and only Jimmy Buffet. Book your villa or hotel stay now! We currently have seats available on Tradewind Aviation’s San Juan–St. Barth route for reserved clients.
Adding to the excitement that weekend, a number of jazz artists – including Hall of Famer James Cotton and his band – will be on the island for the Blues in St. Barth Festival November 5-8. We’ll have the complete schedule next month.

Anybody have an itinerary set for this trip that could use a couple of people to tag along and help with expenses?? Although I am supposed to be in Key West for Meeting of the Minds, that could be changed…. It should actually be easier to get to SXM or St Barts from Miami or FLL than from St Thomas where I live. You can find me on Meet the Phlockers site also.

Greetings All!
I went to St. Bart’s for the 50th with several of my lady friends. We shared a villa and car. The concert on the quay was FREE!!!! We went down very early in the morning and got right up front, center stage (in front of Jimmy’s mic!) Well, we had a real treat because we got to see the whole sound check. I actually stood in that spot from about 10 a.m. through the concert, which didn’t even START until about 8:30 p.m! Jimmy and the band were on a large yacht which was right across from the stage, so we got some great pictures and autographs when they left the stage after the sound check, and then again when they came out for the show. Had our cooler and took turns going on potty breaks. It was one of the most memorable shows I’ve ever been to! Lots of boatie friends from here on St. John showed up, too, even though they always gave me a hard time for being a parrothead! I highly recommend going - the island (what I saw of it) is nice, too. Of course, I can’t guarantee it will be set up the same way, but I can assure you, it will be worth it!

Greeting PH’s
I was at the 50th show – and it was a blast. As many have already said one of the best shows ever! That is saying a lot – because I have seen JB well over 50 times. I would compare Le Select to McSorley’s Ale House in lower Manhattan. For those of you who been there you know what I am talking – old joint that has never been renovated – it is classic bar. Somebody commented on where to stay and mentioned P’tit Morne. This is great inexpensive hotel located in Columbier. Very spacious rooms – with great view. We stayed there back in 1999 for the last concert. Right now one of the biggest challenges would be getting a flight over from St Maarten. Bottom line is this – even if Jimmy does not show up – it will be a great weekend on St. Barth’s!!!

Was in St.Barth’s last week, talked to the staff @ Le Select and they told me that the whole Marius family will be there for the celebration and for sure Jimmy will play.
Port authorities are sure also and preparing for a lot of boats.
They have even contacted the SXM port authorities to announce that the SXM boats will be extra controlled that day and have to be 100% OK with all the rules for St.Barth’s.
A lot of hotels are fully booked ( certainly the not so expensive ones )
and helicopter and boat charters are available. ( See NoLimitsYachts.com and IslandHelicopters.net ) so JB is definitely coming to SB !
