Billboard has an interview with Jimmy on his upcoming new album: “Jimmy Buffett Goes Back To Roots For ‘Hotel’

Jimmy Buffett says he felt a greater level of engagement on his new album, “Buffet Hotel,” than he has on many of his other recent efforts.

“With a band this good and with people this good around you, you kind of get in a routine,” Buffett tells Billboard.com, acknowledging that previous “listening and fixing” was done primarily by Coral Reefer Band collaborators Mike Utley and Mac McAnally.

Buffett is planning a full-scale “Buffet Hotel” tour for 2010 and intends to start the year in Australia and the Pacific Rim. He’s toying with the idea of playing entire albums next year and hopes to play 1983’s “One Particular Harbor” in Tahiti. He’s also putting into motion into a special performance at the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival with “Buffet Hotel” guests Sonny Landreth and Toumani Diabate. And while he says that he’s “out of the movie business” at the moment, Buffett is working on a documentary about his trip to Mali with director Margaret Brown.

Buffett also has two books in the works, a collection of short stories set in the Pacific and “a rock ‘n’ roll novel” called “Mudbath” that is “based on a real-life adventure, but hopefully you won’t recognize any of the characters.”

New York Magazine has an article in which Jimmy Buffett talks about Ilo Ferreira: “From Africa to Margaritaville

On November 23, Freston and his friend Jimmy Buffett, 62, were there to support Ilo at his sold-out show at Joe’s Pub and his appearance later that night on Late Night With Jimmy Fallon, which they’d helped engineer.
How’d they get to know, and fund, him? “It was an amazing set of circumstances,” Buffett says backstage at Joe’s. “Freston gets fired and he doesn’t have his plane and he’s got me all fired up to go to the Festival in the Desert,” in Africa. So they have to take Buffett’s jet. The route to Mali “is from San Juan to Cape Verde,” where they stopped to refuel. Buffett thought, why not check out the local music scene while they were stopping through. “I went, ‘Let’s see if Cesaria Evora is playing; I’ve always been a fan.’”

The Globe and Mail has a review of the Toronto Show: “Jimmy Buffet’s Parrot Heads hail their antihero

If Warren Buffett is a master of investment, Jimmy Buffett (no relation) is a master of time well wasted. Here’s a man who has parlayed a modest talent for laid-back singing and simple songwriting into an empire, his coral-reef country-rock drawing super-loyal crowds, even though his “hits” are not numerous at all.

The 62-year-old entertainer works three nights a week – his concert album from 1999 is Buffett Live – Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays – and when he walks on stage he does so in bare feet and to an antihero’s welcome. Warren Buffett’s secret is of the buy-low-sell-high kind, but what is the formula of Jimmy?

The Richmond Times-Dispatch has a review of the show “Jimmy Buffett predictable, familiar and fun

These days, Jimmy Buffett is more a brand than a musician.

The restaurants, the beer line, the newly renamed Miami Dolphins stadium after the beer line, the upcoming casino in Biloxi, Miss. — it all induces a bit of nausea.

But say this for the ol’ guy, when it’s time to hit the stage, he works it.

The Toronto Star has an article on the upcoming show along with an interview with Jimmy: “Parrotheads keeping cool in Margaritaville North

Not only is there no parking lot at the ACC, it’s probably going to be too chilly to dance outdoors in a grass skirt and coconut bra anyway. But Buffett, 62, has no doubt his loyal fans, dubbed Parrotheads, will be out in force.

“I remember going to Minnesota and seeing fans out in the street tailgating. You watch, they will figure it out,” Buffett says from an undisclosed east-coast location, the slight southern drawl of his Alabama roots coating his voice. “Our fans are a very resourceful bunch.”

“I think there’s a kind of misconceived notion that in order to be a fan you have to put on a coconut bra,” says Buffett. “A good number of people don’t come in costume and are just as rabid fans. It runs a much broader spectrum age-wise and you can get as crazy as you want. There are no rules.”

Buffett also includes Canada among those experiences. He traces his roots to Glace Bay, N.S., where his grandfather worked on ships. And he still has good friends in Toronto; pals he plans to join for an oyster roast featuring some of P.E.I.’s finest while he’s in town.

“We’ve got great fans there and I have my lineage … so I’m happy to be coming. Pray for an extended Indian summer and good weather,” Buffett says.
