There is now a website for Margaritaville Rum which should be out soon. The Margaritaville in New Orleans is now serving the four different types of rum.
A short review is available at the Rum Trader blog:
Just a quick review of the first RUM product from Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Spirits line. The “Classic Mojito” is part of a larger “Ready To Drink” product line which includes a number of flavored margarita pre-mixed beverages. Margaritaville Spirits has promised a full line of Margaritaville RUMs including Dark, Silver, Coconut, and Spiced RUM. The website has bottle photos and an announced street date of “Summer 2009″.

I just hope it’s better than the Landshark beer!
I wish Jimmy would stick to what he knows best; music.
The Margaritaville restaurants are a great marketing idea, but Jimmy, it’s like your allowing your PR person to stick your name on anything.
What next? Hotels? Resorts? Cruise Lines?
I’m all for marketing, and making money, but please sample your products before you allow your name to be placed on a product.
I’ll drink a Lone Star beer before Landshark, that’s how bad that beer is.
It’s like a watered down version of Corona Light.
Bottom line is, you’re burning your name and your market ability out when you place your name on something like Landshark.

Too Bad Jimmy didn`t create a good quality Craft Beer. His Tequila is not very good either.I guess it`s easier to cash in and market lousy products in conjunction with large companies like Budweiser.Hey Jimmy the way the economy is going We Do have a Lot to Drink about too bad your products aren`t very good. You could put your name on Horse Manure and make money because it looks like Parrotheads will buy anything with your name on it.

That’s just like, um, your opinion man.
It’s interesting to see how people’s negativity come up when the economy is bad. Fins Fan and Lindsay, keep that negativity to yourself and stay away from discussion boards that usually include people who want to celebrate a lifestyle through music and good times.
Are you a tequila professional? Take the time to see it is not a top shelf tequila. It is not made for sipping, it is made for making margaritas. Same as Cuervo Gold and Sauza Gold. If you are one of those people that use high end tequila for margaritas then you’re not only ruining your tequila but wasting your money. As for the beer I couldn’t disagree more. It in no way tastes like a Carona. Nice to see they don’t try to fool us by adding a lime to cover for the lack of beer quality. Land Shark is a beach beer, nothing more, nothing less. If you want something different then go order it. No need to insult something if you don’t intend to drink it. You both sound angry or jealous and we don’t need those kind of vibes on this site. If anyone else would like to speak up in support of that feel free. Too much anger out in the world and no room for it in Margaritaville.

Most people who come to this site don’t do so because they want to bring Jimmy down. They’re fans- they really are. But I understand where a lot of their criticism is coming from with this subject .
Over the years Jimmy has increasingly made decisions to market (and leverage) his image in ways that many of his fans are flat out uncomfortable with. Whether it’s Landshark beer or his tequillas or his margarita blenders, etc.. Let’s face it- the products are either sub-quality or inordinately overpriced. After awhile I think you start to question why you are a fan. Do Jack Johnson or Dave Matthews or any number of other respectable performers market their images to the degree that Jimmy does. I just think it gets harder and harder to
get behind something like a “ready to drink” rum drink from Margaritaville when you already know the history of what’s come before.
I’ve been a fan for well over 30 years. I’ve headed up a Parrothead club, still play in a Parrothead band for kicks and I’m thankful for all the fun times and the many, many concerts and gatherings I’ve had a chance to share in. I just caution Jimmy to be careful as to where that line is out there with this extreme marketing…because there is a line.

Thank You Rick You Echo My Thoughts Exactely.I am a Huge Jimmy Fan.Have been for as long as you have,I don`t mind if Jimmy Marketed Good Quality Products but most of the stuff he markets is sub standard but priced as if they were quality.Sure we don`t have to buy anything he sells but it would be great if he produced quality. The way Landshark was first brought out it was as if it was a craft beer.Only later it was revealed to be a Budweiser product.

Thank you Lindsay and Rick.
Sorry Lebowski to disagree with you, I’ve been a big Buffett fan from the first time I heard Margaritaville. I go to his concerts every year, I always buy t-shirts, when I travel, if there a Margaritaville close, I eat there at lease once during my stay. And I defended him when people like Crawfish was running his mouth about Jimmy. I’ve stood in line early in the morning the day tickets went on sale to make sure we got tickets; so I am a big fan (past, present, and future). The bottom line is, Landshark is nasty, the tequila is second rate at best, and I hope the rum is better than other drinks that he has put his name on. Now it’s time for you to deal with the truth.

I should get credit for this story. I mentioned it about two weeks ago in the discussion boards, since I was there the night they launched in in NOLA.
Second, there is no mass produced beer in the US worth noting except Sam Adams products. Lebowski is right, it is a simple beer to drink that at least has flavor compared to Bud Light, et. al. Jimmy wanted mass appeal to compete with the corona & BL crowd so he went with Landshark. I am not a fan of the price point but for what it is, a simple beach beer that does not require a lime, I enjoy it.
As for the tequila, you are right again. Jimmy went for mass appeal and it is not a sipping tequila, nor do they brand it that way, so again, enjoy it for what it is.
The rum, is to compete with a few different levels, some Capt. Morgan for the Spice and Cruzan for the coconut, etc. I tasted them all, they are what they say they are and are definitely comparable if not equal then the other brands they are competing against. Lets be honest, they are probably made in many of the same facilities as they others.
Haters - get lost, but feel free to come back and I will taste your beer/tequila/rum when you make it and give you a fair assessment as well.

Is Jimmy paying you to write this?
Or has your taste buds went AWOL?
I respect your opinion, but I don’t think I’ll be coming to your house any time soon for a drink.
To be fair, I ll try the rum first chance I get, and I hope I’m wrong.

You all make me hate the freedom of speech. But still we have to listen to peole discuss things that, in the long run, do not matter.

I just had the spiced rum as a floater on a rum runner at the key west margaritaville. It’s great. Only problem is I can’t get it at the Pennsylvania state store yet.
