Jimmy Buffett performed a few songs in the parking lot prior to the NFC championship game between the New Orleans Saints and the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday.

From NewOrleans.com: “Senor Parrothead visits Who Dat nation in the shadow of the Superdome

It only goes to prove that you never know who you’ll meet in a parking lot outside a Saints game. Tailgaters crowded around a dusty flatbed stage under a freeway ramp Sunday were not only treated to a historic Saints victory. They also got to catch a couple of songs from Parrothead-in-chief Jimmy Buffett.

Local Y’at jukebox band the Creole String Beans were playing a tailgate party last Sunday afternoon on the back of a beat-up flatbed truck for the Down Undas tailgating club. While the band was on a break, a car drove up, delivering New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival producer Quint Davis and Who Dat fan Jimmy Buffett to the party.

Buffett climbed up onto the flatbed and discussed possible covers with the band. They settled on the Frankie Ford classic, “Sea Cruise.”

“He added special lyrics of ‘Who Dat’ and ‘Drew Brees,’” Savoy said. “Overall he rocked it, the crowd went wild and swelled to triple its original size. The official oyster shucker, Shukah Khan, offered him a raw oyster between verses. He borrowed a guitar and said, “‘Margaritaville’ in D.”

Midweek has an article on the Bora Bora shows in Tahiti last week “Uncle Tom’s Gabbin’ by Tom Moffatt

IT BEGAN IN 1982 when I took Jimmy Buffett to perform in Tahiti at the O’tac in Papeete. After the show Monte Brown, a friend from Kona who was GM of Hotel Bora Bora, invited our party to spend a few days at his beautiful hotel. While there, we all enjoyed an evening at the island’s newest restaurant, Bloody Mary’s.

It finally happened … after Jimmy’s surprise concert at Jimmy Buffett’s at the Beachcomber in Waikiki, we headed for Tahiti for the show’s last weekend at Bloody Mary’s. Thanks to managers Craig Gould and Rick Guenett, and owner Dexter Hewett, all proceeds from ticket sales are being donated to build a playground for the children of Bora Bora. And thanks to another dear friend Francis Teai, the Tahitian government provided the best technical equipment to make it a truly first-class presentation. And Gabilou flew in from Papeete to provide a special introduction.

Needless to say, it was very special with Jimmy concluding his performance with a rousing One Particular Harbor.

From Buffalo Business First: “Margaritaville is pulling into Niagara Falls

Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Cafe has selected Niagara Falls as the site for its first Canadian restaurant. Margaritaville Canada Ltd. has signed a lease with the owners of the Skylon Tower to open the 14,000-square-foot, two-story restaurant on Fallsview Avenue, across from the Niagara Fallsview Casino and Resort.

The naming rights for the stadium that the Miami Dolphins play in have been given to Sun Life Financial for $7.5 million per year for 5 years. This ends the one year deal signed in May 2009 with Jimmy Buffett for Landshark Stadium.

From the Palm Beach Post: “Miami Dolphins’ home will have a new name: Sun Life Stadium

Dolphin Stadium has another new name, but this one should last for the next five years. The Dolphins have reached agreement with Sun Life Financial — a Canadian financial-services company — to rename their home Sun Life Stadium just in time for the team to host the Pro Bowl on Jan. 31 and the Super Bowl on Feb. 7.

The stadium last season was named Land Shark Stadium, after the beer marketed by Jimmy Buffett. The stadium was named Joe Robbie Stadium after then-owner Joe Robbie when it opened in 1987. It later was known as Pro Player Park (when a clothing line bought the naming rights), Pro Player Stadium, Dolphins Stadium and Dolphin Stadium.

From the Miami Herald: “Dolphin Stadium officially becomes Sun Life Stadium on Wednesday

Tahitian music legend John Gabilou introduced Jimmy for a second night and moved the crowd at mid-break with a love song of Bora Bora. Jimmy Buffett played to a sold out crowd at Bloody Mary’s on the island of Bora Bora, Tahiti last night. With him were Reefers Mac McAnally, and Robert Greenidge. It had been 28 years since Jimmy last played the club, when he was in Tahiti recording the album One Particular Harbour. To commemorate that history a Tahitian choir joined Jimmy onstage for the title track. It was magic. The club’s capacity was about 88. Jimmy will play a second show at Bloody’s on Saturday night. The shows are a fundraiser to build a playground for local school. (thanks to Stanton for passing this along to us)

Some of the songs played:
Chanson Pour Les Petites Enfants

MusicRadar.com reports that Martin introduces the LX Jimmy Buffett guitar:

Jimmy Buffett has played Martin guitars for decades - and it’s been some party. C.F. Martin & Co. has acknowledged his loyalty twice: in 1998 with the Martin HD-18JB Jimmy Buffett Signature Edition, a classic stage/studio guitar offered in an edition of 424 that sold out immediately, and in 2003 with the Martin 000-JBS Jimmy Buffett Shellback and 000-JBP Jimmy Buffett Pollywog Signature Editions, “off-shore” (as in sailboat-ready) guitars that totaled 168 and 305, respectively.

As Buffett recently pointed out, the one namesake guitar Martin hadn’t yet built for him was a “beach” guitar; a small, sturdy guitar to play at beach with friends and one that would bring that fun, carefree “beach” spirit wherever it went. So under Jimmy’s guidance - Martin Guitar is pleased to introduce the LX Jimmy Buffett.

The Martin LX Jimmy Buffett guitar features the same “go everywhere” design and materials as the popular and fine sounding LXM “Little Martin;” a modified 0 14-fret shape and short 23-inch scale, with an HPL body matched to Sitka spruce top bracing, a modified low oval Stratabond neck, tropical hardwood fingerboard, and Micarta belly bridge.
