From CMT News: Jimmy Buffett’s Margarita Cafe is coming to downtown Nashville and is expected to open by the end of the year, according to the Nashville newspaper, The Tennessean. The location on Lower Broadway once housed Planet Hollywood and, more recently, the Global Cafe. Extensive renovations to the building are scheduled to begin in April. It’s the restaurant chain’s first property in Tennessee. With an upstairs concert hall, Buffett plans to add to Nashville’s live music scene. “I know about all the people that have lived there who aren’t run through the aperture of country hit radio,” he told the newspaper. “It’s a very diverse place, and it’s a natural thing to put a stage in, because we have them everywhere else, and you never know who’s going to show up. But we don’t pursue name acts or anything like that. You let your customer dictate what they want, not what you want.”

Update: The Tennessean has an article on the new Margaritaville in Nashville too.

It will be the 10th U.S. Margaritaville Café, but will be different from the others in that it will be “more Nashville-centric,” Bloom said.

Buffett said most of the members of his band, the Coral Reefers, live in Nashville. The restaurant will have a circular staircase with a family tree paying tribute to past and present members of the band.

Jimmy Buffett is part of a group that owns a horse called “Daddy Forty Nine”. The horse is a contender to qualify for this year’s Kentucky Derby. They formerly owned a horse called “Pulaski County”.

A total of 366 3-year-olds are nominated to the Derby and the other Triple Crown races, from 2-year-old champion Lookin At Lucky, to a long shot gelding co-owned by Super Bowl MVP Drew Brees, to a full brother of ill-fated 2006 Derby winner Barbaro.

Brees’ Derby hopeful is Daddy Forty Nine. The gelding is owned by Last Mango Racing Stable, formed by New Orleans Saints vice president of communications Greg Bensel. Other partners include Saints coach Sean Payton, singer Jimmy Buffett and the Monday Night Football announcing crew of Mike Tirico, Ron Jaworski and Jon Gruden.

From the Tennessean.com: Middle Tennesseeans have something to look forward to while dealing with February’s bitter cold and snow flurries: Jimmy Buffett is coming, and he’ll be bringing the summer with him.

The party-rock veteran will return to Nashville on Saturday, May 1, to headline a concert at the Sommet Center as part of his “Under the Big Top Tour 2010.”

Tickets go on sale at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 20 through Ticketmaster.com There is a six ticket limit per customer.
