Newschannel5.com has a report that mentions problems for the plan for the new Margaritaville Cafe in Nashville: “Historic Preservation Could Cause Hurdle For Margaritaville”
Plans to build Jimmy Buffet’s Margaritaville in Downtown Nashville has hit a snag. The building sits in the Broadway Preservation District and has to meet strict construction guidelines.
The Metropolitan Historic Zoning Commission staff found problems with some of the beach-themed restaurant’s signage and proposed glass wall that would replace the building’s windows.
The property owner said without the open windows Margaritaville would most likely not invest in Downtown Nashville.
Jimmy Buffett wrote a review of Herman Wouk’s new book “The Language God Talks: On Science and Religion” for Vanity Fair Magazine. You can pre-order the book at Amazon.com.
Herman Wouk is one of the wisest men I have ever known. In aviation the best information comes from pilots themselves, in airplanes, not from air-traffic controllers or meteorologists on the ground, in some big air-conditioned office. In his new book, The Language God Talks, Herman sends us all a most valuable pilot report, since it comes from a man whose remaining time on this voyage, he concedes, is rather short. It has been a long time since I sat down and thought about the big questions, such as “Who are we, really?” and “Why are we here?” I have always been more comfortable being tagged a court jester than any kind of philosopher, but I am glad that my old friend keeps his page-a-day commitment to himself, thus extending, in The Language God Talks, a pilot report that we can all use.
The CMT Crossroads show with Jimmy Buffett and Zac Brown Band debuts tonight on CMT at 10 PM Eastern time. Visit CMT for a schedule of other times the show will air.

Toes
Son of a Son of a Sailor
Chicken Fried
A Pirate Looks at Forty
(Where the Boat Leaves From)
Free/Into the Mystic
Nobody from Nowhere
Margaritaville
From David: I went to the meeting in Hollywood, FL and saw the two presentations, Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort and the Planet Hollywood resort. About 200 people were there and probably 90% were for the Margaritaville plan. The Planet Hollywood attorney was arrogant and turned off the people.
If the Margaritaville Hollywood Beach Resort is approved with the vote on April 7th the opening would be ready by Dec 31, 2012.
The best points
1) The Margaritaville Resort plan give more money back to the city
2) The Margaritaville plan will only have two restaurants (to keep the local businesses still going).
3) It’s the FIRST hotel for the group (run by a strong hotel group) so people will flock to it just to see the first place.
The Margaritaville Plan calls for
350 guest rooms (42 suites)
A Margaritaville Cafe (400 seats)
It’s Five o’clock Somewhere Bar (150 seats)
Twelve Volt Bar
Retail, Spa, and Conference area (1500 people)
Poolside and cabana services
A landmark of San Francisco is under threat of demolition. Jimmy Buffett referenced the famous tropical bar during a spoken introduction to the song “Altered Boy” on his 2002 album “Far Side Of The World” (“…this particular song got it’s initial inspiration from a visit to the Tonga Room, in the beautiful Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco…”)
A grass roots preservation effort is under way, spearheaded by oddly enough, a competitor…
SAVE THE TONGA ROOM RALLY AT SMUGGLER’S COVE SAN FRANCSICO
650 Gough Street (at McAllister), San Francisco, California
Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 from 5:00 pm until 7:00 pm
SAN FRANCISCO, CA – To all concerned San Franciscans, Tiki freaks, Dionysians and Sybarites, mid-century fans, and rum aficionados; come one and come all to a gathering at Smuggler’s Cove (650 Gough St. San Francisco, CA 94102) on Tuesday, March 23rd, 2010 starting at 5:00PM to sign a petition opposing the demolition of the Tonga Room to make way for a parking garage and yet more luxury condominiums. After you sign the petition, stay a while and enjoy a fantastic rum cocktail or two while you mix and mingle with like-minded people and listen to Exotica under the soft glow of Tiki torches and beachcomber lamps. Around 6:00 PM, Chris VerPlanck and Erica Schultz of S.O.S. Tonga will provide a brief update on efforts to save the Tonga Room and exhort you to contact your local supervisors and the president of the Historic Preservation Commission, urging them to designate the Tonga Room as a local San Francisco Landmark. Mahalo!

From CMT “Jimmy Buffett, Zac Brown Band Reach Fever Pitch“: Just ahead of Friday’s (March 19) premiere of CMT Crossroads: Jimmy Buffett and Zac Brown Band, check out their enthusiastic collaboration on “Free/Into the Mystic.” Brown often performs a medley of his “Free” and Van Morrison’s classic “Into the Mystic” in concert, but here it takes on a giant new fullness with the addition of Buffett and his Coral Reefer Band. As the easygoing song swells to truly epic proportions, the two groups reach a collaborative fever pitch just as the country/jam rock/reggae mix peaks. Since both bands are used to that mix — with one foot on the beach and one in a pine forest — this could be one of the most natural Crossroads pairings yet.
