From the Miami Herald: “Hollywood beach to get its own Margaritaville”
Hollywood city commissioners voted Wednesday night to go with a Cheeseburger in Paradise rather than Somewhere Over the Rainbow as they voted unanimously to approve plans for a $100 million Margaritaville resort on the city’s most prized piece of oceanfront land.
From WSVN channel 7: “City decides on beach’s landscape”
City leaders have made a decision that will dramatically alter Hollywood Beach’s landscape.
City leaders have approved a proposal for Margaritaville to begin plans to reside on Hollywood Beach.
Initially two $100 million hotel proposals were being considered for 25 acres of beach, between the Intracoastal and the boardwalk at Johnson Street.
Margaritaville and Jimmy Buffet were up against Sylvester Stallone and his Planet Hollywood. The developer of Planet Hollywood said the opinion polls are swinging his way. “Planet Hollywood is leading two to one in all the public opinion polls,” Jim Wilson said.

Rock on Derek. Overkill is the key word. I’m going to play that song on my ipod now while I browse the internet looking at Margaritaville christmas decorations, footwear, rum tequilla, beer, shirts, hats, keychains, auto accessories, drinkware, home decor, kitchenware, beachware, and oh! The leather landshark golfbag that sells for just $299.95.

To each his/her own.
Not everyone likes the same thing. Some people are into baseball not football. Some folk like hot dogs others like hamburgers. Others prefer both.
For those of us who are supportive of the concept and see it as a positive, we will vacation there and have a great time and be grateful for it and yes return as often as we can. What is so wrong with that. This resort is going to create more jobs, and bring more travel business to the area not to mention the state. Is that not a positive thing?
For anyone who is not into this concept there are plenty of other places to visit and enjoy. Go forth and find where that place is make a reservation and enjoy yourselves.

Chachi, I agree…
It use to be cool to see a t-shirt from a Margaritaville; because there was so few.
Now the only Margaritaville that is cool to see is from Cozumel, because it’s a little harder to get to (unless you mail order it).
Bottom line Jimmy, your marketing board is over marketing your product.
Oh well, when the boat sinks, It sinks…Fins up

I’m just a bit disappointed in the whole monster behemoth that it’s become. Don’t get me wrong, I still love JB and his lifestyle. Why else would I check this website along with all you other parrotheads!

A place like Hollywood Beach??? WHAT!!!!
For us Hollywoodians who know about fun in every direction on Hollywood Beach that’s imaginable, Margaritaville will be the icing on the cake of our ammenities in this place where there’s something to do for everyone.
Margaritaville would be another find addition to our cities newly manicured beach with a lenghtly cobblestone boardwalk that holds fun to thousands daily, live sidewalk entertainment, beautiful crystal clear ocean scenery, the best pizza joints around, parasailing, and the fising & diving off the coast is addicting…
Margaritaville, us locals welcome you to our tourist filled city of Hollywood where everyone leaves with a smile ! We Can’t Wait!!!!
And perhaps some of you out of state residents may want to do your homework on traveling to the city of Hollywood, which happens to be South Beach’s next door neighbor….
