From TCPalm.com: “Vero Beach boatbuilder, Jimmy Buffett team up to help recover oiled wildlife in Gulf”
The images of the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico are serving as a call to action for men and women who have built their lives on the water like Vero Beach boatbuilders Mark Castlow and Jimbo Meador, and Meador’s longtime friend, musician Jimmy Buffett.
Days after people began to learn about the magnitude of the Deepwater Horizon catastrophe, Castlow e-mailed Meador and Buffett who were in the Bahamas fishing for bonefish. Castlow’s message was simple: “We have to do something.”
Early next week, Dragonfly Boatworks, a small custom boatbuilding company, expects to ship a vessel designed specifically to aid in the recovery of oil-covered wildlife along the marshes of the Gulf Coast.
The first SWAT is headed to the Gulf Coast Research Laboratory operated by the University of Southern Mississippi. The scientists there were chosen to receive the first one in part because it is Buffett’s alma mater.
The singer, songwriter, restaurateur and author is underwriting the construction costs of the four boats estimated at about $35,000 apiece. Dragonfly Boatworks also is donating much of the expense, and the company is in the process of trying to partner with an outboard engine manufacturer to help with the cause.

I think it’s about time someone starts to help the wildlife affected by this disaster
I have always been a parrot head since Jimmy and I are only less than a yr apart in age. And I know he is very wealthy, but I know of no one else who donates as much money as he does to needy causes. He puts his great talent to good use.and unless your a parrot head and belong to this group, you have no idea what and how much this man does behind the scenes, not looking for the general public to know.

This is one of the main reasons I have folowed Jummy and am a member of the Parrothead club. Raising money for great causes is a lot of fun when you’re helping Jimmy and his causes. What can we do to help?

Isnt it amazing that Jimmy Buffett would come up with a plan when the people from BP cant seem to. I live in Pensacola and we have the most beautiful beaches in the world and we are being threatened. It makes me sick every time i see the news or read the paper…IT FAILED…Well get someone down here that can help..Thank you JB….

No Lindsay, it sounds like Johnny has some common sense on how the world works. You have whined and complained that Jimmy should do this or that to help the spill or help Nashville or stop global warming or cure cancer b/c evil Jimmy has more money than you. They post an article about him helping and here you come again your silly comments. How about thank you Jimmy or how about not making stupid statements like you must be a BP shareholder. Thank You JB for all your help, I would love to help but do not have the resorses of some. But I do boycot BP. And to the idiots on here that would like to bad mouth JB why do you come here if you dont like the man or the music? I have been a Parrot Head for a little over one year. Over the past year, the 500+ Parrot Heads I have met, have raised well over $100,000.00 for everything from Breast Cancer research to helping homeless animals. It’s amazing how 1 man, yes ONE MAN has inspired so many to fight for causes! So you bashers, my money went to fund breast cancer research. If you love anyone who has cancer, please extend a thank you to your local chapter. It’s all in the name of peace and love. Not war………and we are ALL in this together.

Buffett makes a million dollars per show…………..maybe he can give this years concert earnings to the poor fishermen that will never be able to fish again.

Why should Jimmy give up his entire years earnings for the fishermen? I mean are you serious? So you are saying dear idiot crawfish(btw I wish you would change your name as it makes me sick to eat crawfish as I inevitably think of your pathetic self) that if Jimmy gave say half of his earnings that is not enough? It’s not like he caused this problem.
I have friends and family that live there/work there and I am from there. Trust me, no one is thinking “wow if only Jimmy Buffett would forgo his earnings we could survive this mess”. Any help from anyone is appreciated but not expected. Again, why single out Jimmy?

Please go find some other place to piss and moan about some other artist. WE come here because we love the whole lifestyle, music, charity work, etc. If it is not good enough for you then haul your sorry ass down to the coast and start helping with the cleanup. If you spent 10% of the time you spent whining about JB helping out locally with charities, churches etc. the world would be a better place.
To second what Johnny said, you whiners are why our country is going down the toilet. Get off your butt and do something and quit worrying about what other people with money are doing and acting like you are the person to decide how much someone should give. You take care of your own house and let everyone else worry about their own house.

And cheers to Dragon Boatworks as well… it’s nice to know that people will do what they can to help the critters affected by this incredible catastrophe, and I wish there was more I could do to help as well, but I commend you for your efforts! May our prayers be with the families who lost their loved ones in this awful tragedy. Thank you so much.

Jimmy has written love songs about the area that has been so devestated by this greedy crime. He is a busy man with family, work and projects coming out of his ears. Phinz up to his loyal supporters, other wankers, give him a break & get off the forum! He has always been an environmentalist!
Living in Australia, we are half a world away from this disaster & it wasn’t until last night on 60 minutes that we were truly made aware of what has happened to the Gulf Coast. Every oil company should be doing what they can to plug that hole in the earth!

Ladies and Gentlemen while I do not always agree with Jimmy’s political views I have always been impressed with his business sense and his generousity. He does not make me pay to go to his concerts I do it of my own free will (God Bless America). It does not matter whether he does it out of love for the music or love for the money he is good at it and us “Parrot Heads” have a wonderful escape to go to. As far as what he is doing for this disaster I do not know. But becuase he got off his butt and found a why to make a great living if he donates just a small fraction of his income to charity it will be more than the rest of us on this site will make in a year if not a lifetime. I say heres to Jimmy for being smart. The rest of the country could learn a great leason from him. Work hard and find a commodity that sells. Then just sit back and listen to those that sit on their butts complain about how lucky you are. America and the Gulf needs all of us. Please stop bashing and start helping. No matter how little it all helps!
