Jimmy Buffett’s sister, Lucy Buffett, owner of LuLu’s at Homeport Marina in Gulf Shores AL has written an editorial on the oil spill in the Gulf of Mexico:
Dear Coastal Inhabitants Everywhere
-and-
All folks who know the joy of putting their toes in the ocean, especially those who know the pleasure of diving over a wave in the warm, clear, salty Gulf of Mexico on a brilliant summer day or riding one to the flawless, sugar shore of my beloved Alabama coast:
I simply can’t remember when we have had a lovelier spring along the Gulf Coast! In recent years, we have gone from crisp, clear mornings in February to tropical 90’s temps by March. “Global warming!” we all fretted! But this year, it finally seemed that we were getting back to normal, back to the easy, Southern rhythms of my childhood with the winter season moving gently into a luscious spring. And spring taking its own sweet time unfolding before diving head on into the desperate heat of summer that is only relieved by the daily afternoon shower!

The Indianapolis Star has a review of the show: “Buffett brings an early touch of summer”
Parrotheads carried inflatable sharks, wore pink-flamingo headgear and sported bikini tops fashioned from coconuts Saturday night at Verizon Wireless Music Center.
That’s the norm when Jimmy Buffett comes to town, but timing — as in calendar placement — made this concert different than the rest.
AdvertisementTropical-minded singer-songwriter Buffett had played 27 shows at the 24,000-capacity amphitheater before Saturday, and none had been staged earlier than June 3.
On this mid-May night in Indiana, a chill in the air prevailed, and rain fell after intermission.
Credit Buffett for at least creating an illusion of summer conditions.

The website for the new Margaritaville Beach Hotel in Pensacola FL that will open this summer is now online. They have some information and photos for the hotel. There is a message that says “check back soon for reservation information”. (thanks to catsway for posting the link)
The first Margaritaville Beach Hotel will open in Pensacola Beach, FL according to an article in The Northwest Florida Daily News.
Jimmy Buffett’s mythical Margaritaville is about to become a reality on Pensacola Beach.
The legendary singer-songwriter has reached an agreement with Pensacola developer Marilyn Woodbury-Hess to launch the first Margaritaville Beach Hotel in a $50 million, 162-room Gulf-front hotel expected to open in late May or early June.
Buffett’s Orlando-based development partner, Jim Wiseman, announced the deal during the Santa Rosa Island Authority’s regular board meeting Wednesday evening.
Wiseman said the decision to launch the hotel brand in Pensacola was the result of three weeks of rapid-fire meetings he and Buffett held with Woodbury-Hess’ Little Sabine Inc., developers of the property owned by American Fidelity Life Insurance Co.
“Up until three weeks ago, our plans were to locate the first Margaritaville Beach Hotel in Hollywood, Fla.,” Wiseman told Island Authority members. “It’s really providential how this all came about. It was meant to be at Pensacola Beach.”
Wiseman noted that Buffett, a Mobile native, “grew up on Pensacola Beach” and his strong affinity for the area factored heavily into the decision to locate the first hotel there.

Northern Light Media has an article on Jimmy honoring dogsled racer Newton Marshall: “The Jamaican: Newton Marshall”
Newton not only finished the Yukon Quest in a very respectable thirteenth place, but he was back the next year to run the world famous Iditarod under the tutelage of the world famous Lance Mackey, and he finished 47th out of a field of 71 mushers, again, a very good run for a rookie in the race. On May 7th Chukka Caribbean Adventures and Jimmy Buffett, the team’s godfather, major sponsor, and biggest fan, hosted supporters and dignitaries who gathered to congratulate Newton Marshall on his historic mushing accomplishments. Four-time Iditarod Champion and Newton’s mentor Lance Mackey and his wife Tonya flew to Jamaica to attend the event, hosted at Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville in Ocho Rios.

Update: More photos are available in an article at Jamaica Information Service: “Jimmy Buffet, Boscobel Aerodrome’s First Passenger”
The Jamaica Gleaner has a story on Jimmy Buffett’s inaugural flight into the new Boscobel Aerodrome airport in Jamaica: “Boscobel welcomes first flight”
The Boscobel Aerodrome, on course to becoming the island’s third international airport, welcomed its first international flight on Friday when Jimmy Buffett of Margaritaville fame touched down in his single-engine aircraft around 10:30 a.m.
A welcoming party headed by Sports Minister Olivia Grange and including Airports Authority of Jamaica (AAJ) chairman Mark Hart, and Chris Blackwell, was on hand to mark the occasion.
The flight came ahead of the July deadline when the facility, which is still in its expansion phase, commences full operation, and an official opening planned for December to coincide with the start of the 2010-2011 winter tourist season.
Buffett, who flew in from The Bahamas, gave a thumbs-up to the facility, saying it saved time.
“I just got to say what a thrill it is to come directly into Boscobel; this just makes things so much easier,” Buffett said.
He also commended the processing by immigration officials who were brought in just for the occasion, saying the experience was “lovely”.
But Buffett might have inadvertently disclosed that the expanded facility would be named Ian Fleming Airport – in memory of the creator of the famed James Bond series – who lived and penned several of the James Bond stories just a few miles away at Golden Eye in Oracabessa, now owned by Blackwell.
