From WKRG.com: “eBay Promises To Remove Jimmy Buffett Tickets

All 35,000 free tickets for Jimmy Buffet’s Gulf Coast Relief Concert were gone in less than ten minutes.

Thousands of disappointed fans flooded Ticketmaster.com and Ticketmaster outlets only to find out the tickets were already gone.

Within minutes, the free tickets started showing up on eBay and Craig’s List for hundreds of dollars.

Free tickets to Jimmy Buffett’s Gulf Coast Relief Concert will be removed from eBay, according to a statement released by the company.

“While eBay in many cases allows the listing of event tickets that are initially distributed for free, we did not feel that the resale of free tickets to the Gulf Coast benefit concert was appropriate or consistent with the charitable spirit of the event,” the company said in a statement.

A spokesperson for the company said eBay is in the process of removing existing ticket listings from the website, and they have put “measures in place to try to capture new listings from going live.”

I am thrilled to hear this. I knew when I wasn’t able to get tickets after 32 mins that scalpers had gotten in. My comment was “karma is a muther” and I swore I wouldn’t pay for a free concert. Hooray for ebay, now lets see craigslist do the same. Those effers should give the tickets away and have to pay the postage to boot!

Looks like local people have been shut out on purpose because the point of this concert was to bring in tourists from out of town to spend money, rent hotel rooms and spend money buying food and drink.Perhaps Jimmy should have done two concerts one for locals and one for out of towners, just saying

  3. 3. Lindsay Says:

I also have to say It is Totally Deplorable that anyone could Cash In By getting Tickets on Ticketmaster or any other on line source then reselling them. It`s supposed to be a Free Concert,Free Free Free.Makes me Sick.Jimmy It`s Your Concert and It`s your responsibilty to over see that the tickets go to both Locals and out of towners alike.

I thot the idea of the concert was for the people there , along. Gulf dealing w this tragedy, losing sssooo much… Jimmy said even if ifs just for a.couple of hours, with music! If it was a benefit… it gotppbenefit all involved. But it wasn’t called a fundraiser - if supposed to b then y not sell all tix to.raise $$$ 1sf thot was get fix!! But that’s less. Tix for the people who deserve it Gulf people!!

  5. 5. Lindsay Says:

Well you got to remember that Both Jimmy and his Sister Lu Lu have a lot to Drink about I mean Think About

  6. 6. Andrew Says:

I’m disappointed that ebay permitted this practice to begin with, I believe further sanctions by the public is warranted, taking advantage of such a charitable event, they should be fined, as anyone else who profits from the loss of others, should be and those fines put in a fund for the victims.

  7. 7. Tiki Says:

I agree Andrew… I wish there were consequences for their actions.

  8. 8. Kevin Says:

And who knows how many tickets were taken by people who had no intention of actually going, but just wanted to make a buck selling them on eBay, thereby depriving someone who actually did want to go a chance to get a ticket. Greed strikes again! It’s good eBay took the listings down, but since tickets were free I bet a lot of them will now go unused because people can’t sell them.

  9. 9. MS Byrds Says:

Call the Attorney General-Tell him to GET ‘EM…

Just to let you know-Blocks of tickets were given to some of the realty guys-special being offered-2 free tickets with a minimum 3 night reservation at a condo on the beach…SWEET…
Tell them MS Byrds sent you…

  10. 10. MS Byrds Says:

P.S. Now this is supporting the local economy!!!

It is a shame that so many people thought they could make a buck off Jimmy’s kind act. As soon as we heard he was doing the show we got online and booked a room in Gulf Shores. It was before they even announced the ticket deal. I think they should kill the tickets and do something else. I know some realtors got tickets to offer as packages for renting condos, but what about the motels and restaraunts? If they could give tickets at motels to guest who have reservations and maybe at reataraunts they could give tickets based on money spent at the establishment. This would be more in line for what Jimmy wanted, it would reward the people who are coming to spend money on tourism at a time when people are going elsewhere. If the tickets stay as they are, I am afraid there will be no one at the concert. The scalpers don’t want to go, they just wanted to make a quick buck. Thank you ebay for doing the wright thing.

  12. 12. Anna Baker Says:

They should have used the voucher system. If you print out a voucher then you can take your voucher and redeem it for a ticket when you get to the concert. That way no money exchanges hands only tickets! Then any money spent can directly benefit the Gulf Coast.

Something to think about at least.

  13. 13. R Stone Says:

The purpose was to promote tourism, not for locals from Foley or Daphne. They’re not not spending any money in gulf Shores, they’re just jumping in their pickups for the 20 mile ride to see Kenny Chesney and Zac Brown then go home to their double-wides. I too made reservations the moment I heard of the concert. I added two additional days to my vacation and out of my way to attend and support. I did not get tickets either. I figure I’m doing my part, so I won’t be buying the t-shirts or the inevitable DVD. Let the corn-holers from Daphne spend a little to support their region. Thanks to EBay for shutting down the scalpers. Like the voucher idea.

  14. 14. Pat Ludwig Says:

Scalpers make so much money off of Buffett concerts but how you going to stop them. Greed, Greed, Greed. Some people may call it a entreperneurship I call it a rip off. Love Buffett but so over the scalpers! We are going to the Gulf in hopes that we might find a ticket.

  15. 15. CoxsackieParrothead Says:

Hooo-raaaayyyyy for Ebay!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! It really gives me hope to see a company the size of ebay get into the parrothead spirit. By not becoming part of the problem; They have become part of the solution! A benefit should be just that. It is bad enough that scalpers eat up all the good tickets to Jimmy’s shows and make us true parrotheads pay through the nose for the opportunity to see and experience a Jimmy Buffett show live!!! Again BRAVO Ebay!!!!!!!!!

  16. 16. SoFlaFSU Says:

I have been a huge Parrothead for over 30 years and have to say I find this picture to be of poor taste. On one hand, I think it’s fantastic that Jimmy is stepping up and willing to invest his own money for 1-3 special boats. On the other hand, I find it extremely wrong that he’d also take the opportunity to market his brand of beer. There is a time for honest to goodness - heart felt service and another time to make a living. They do not mix

  17. 17. Lindsay Says:

SoFlaFSU I agree with you.Look out for Criticism. It`s not allowed here to question anything Jimmy Does.Personally I think Jimmy is a Good Person and puts his heart and efforts in the right place but Jimmy is still a Business Man.Jimmy said he would never sell out but I ask Has He?Overkill Jimmy Overkill.Watch SoFlaFSU how I get Slammed.Jimmy couldn`t you have found a better way to give the tickets for your Free Concert?

  18. 18. Remittance Man Says:

The idea of the concert is that people go to Gulf Shores and stay in condos and hotels. While there they eat in the local restaurants and then buy gas, beer, water, etc. If locals got all the tickets then none of the hotels or condos would be used. Think about it! Makes good business sense to me!

  19. 19. Lindsay Says:

Ok so that should of been said up front from the get go.This Free Concert is for out of towners or out of staters only. However if Jimmy said this imagine the fallout from local people. Were seeing it now.I think Jimmy should do two concerts one for each group. After saying that A Free Concert is supposed to be a Free Concert. The people scalping tickets are totally unethical.
