Some Videos from Jimmy’s trip to Paris: “One day into Jimmy BUFFETT’s life in Paris”

Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band performed in Paris France on Friday night at the Olympia Hall. This was the forth year in a row that Buffett has done a show in Paris.

Update: The set list from the show is now available (thanks to Irish Parrot)

From Irish Parrot: The gig itself contained a pretty mixed up setlist from the norm, even for Paris. “Mademoiselle (Voulez-Vous Danser)” rarely gets an outing but here it was in Paris. The show was amazing and songs like “Fins”, “One Particular Harbor” and “Cheeseburger in Paradise” sounded incredibly fresh after all these years and just rocked. But also there were beautiful moments in the renditions of “It’s My Job” and “He Went To Paris” during which Jimmy unplugged and performed solo while sitting on the edge of the stage and everybody sang every word along with him. Even then he surprised by not finishing at that but got up to do “Tin Cup Chalice” and “l’Air de Louisianne” again solo.

From No Shoes: What a day, I cannot believe how lucky we were. First we are in the queue and Jimmy rode up on his bicycyle and said “I see it is the same faces at the front each year”. He then stood on the pavement with us for about 20 minutes chatting, signing autographs and having pictures taken with the few people who were there (about 20 of us) What a start to the day.

The Zac Brown Band’s new album “You Get What You Give” is now available. Jimmy Buffett performs with Zac on the song “Knee Deep“. You can order the album through Amazon.com.

The Washington Post have a review of the album: Zac Brown Band, “You Get What You Give”

If you’re having a hard time spotting the differences between Nashville and Margaritaville, blame Kenny Chesney, the country superstar who found perennial success in the previous decade with a never-ending chain of Jimmy Buffett-inspired odes to rest and relaxation.

The grand poobah of the beach, Jimmy Buffett, parasails in to offer his voice to “Knee Deep,” a song that bobs along at a reggae-infused cadence without a care, a destination or a point. Together, he and Brown harmonize on the utterly forgettable refrain: “I think I might’ve found me my own kind of paradise.”

The Student Printz has another article on Jimmy’s visit to University of Southern Mississippi: “Students meet Jimmy Buffett

“I was really just in the right place at the right time,” said senior Jill Duckworth of her happenstance meeting with famous singer and songwriter Jimmy Buffett on Thursday. “I grew up listening to him, so I recognized him,” said the communications major from Clinton, Miss.

Whether by word of mouth or the Internet, Buffett’s quiet visit soon made itself known to the campus.

“I actually heard that Jimmy Buffett was on campus via Twitter,” said Kyle Nixon.” I immediately sent a text message to one of my best friends, Brett Haro, who is a huge parrothead.” (As any parrothead knows, Buffett’s fans call themselves parrotheads.)

From the Philadelphia Inquirer: “Trump Entertainment puts Trump Marina in Atlantic City up for sale again

The on-again, off-again courtship between Coastal and Trump Entertainment came up in the bankruptcy hearings earlier this year. Robert Pickus, Trump Entertainment’s general counsel, said costly litigation in Florida involving the casino company and Richard T. Fields, chairman of Coastal Marina, an affiliate of Coastal Development, would be dismissed with the sale of Trump Marina to Coastal.

But Thursday, Fields said Coastal was no longer interested, and he rebuked Juliano and Trump Entertainment for trying to use Coastal to solicit higher offers.

“Coastal made a written offer to purchase the Marina on Aug. 23, 2010, and was prepared to place half of the purchase price in escrow,” Fields said. “The company never responded. . . . Last week, we formally withdrew our offer.”

From The StudentPrintz.com: “Jimmy Buffett visits campus

Jimmy Buffett visited USM Thursday to discuss “a couple of projects” with President Martha Saunders and USM scientists. After he and Saunders had lunch in the Trent Lott Center, Saunders gave Buffett a tour of campus, and the two talked with students outside the Administration Building.

“I wanted to come back and see my old campus,” Buffett said. “It’s been a while. Some things have definitely changed, and some things haven’t.”

Buffett said he came through Hattiesburg on business, but he will be having some fun as well. “I’m on my way down to see the Saints game,” he said.

Buffett told the students he graduated from USM on the same day as President Saunders. “I have the program to prove it,” Saunders joked.

Buffett asked this reporter how things are going at The Student Printz, and he talked with students who had seen him perform over the summer.

Before going into the Administration Building, Buffett said, “I’ve never seen the President’s office… but I’ve seen the dean’s office a few times.”

Buffett said he “paid the mini mart back,” in reference to his song “Peanut Butter Conspiracy,” in which talks about his friends stealing food from the mini mart.

“Runnin’ up and down the aisle of the mini mart/ Stickin’ food in our jeans/ Never took more than we could eat/ There was plenty left on the rack/ We all swore if we ever got rich/ We would pay the mini mart back.”

As Saunders and Buffett left the students, Buffett told them, “Y’all get back to class.”

From the Tennessean.com: “Margaritaville Cafe to open by Christmas

A $10 million remodeling project on Lower Broadway to house Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Cafe continues on schedule so the beach-themed restaurant and live-music venue can open by Christmas, the building’s owners say.

When it’s up and running, the cafe will feature music and mementos of the legendary entertainer, who got his start in Nashville and has heartily supported bringing one of his signature restaurants to the city’s popular downtown tourist district.

Both floors of the century-old building at 322 Broadway are being prepared for a variety of bars, dining areas and performance stages. Interior framing was under way as the owners toured the site with the architects and general contractor late last week.

“A lot of people are excited this building is coming to life again,” said Mark Bloom, a principal in the Corner Partnership, which owns the building and is paying for the renovations.

USA Today has a short interview with Jimmy Buffett: “Jimmy Buffett wraps up summer with Virginia show

Barefoot and happy, Jimmy Buffett helped thousands of Parrotheads say so long to summer last night with the second of his two Labor Day weekend shows in Bristow, Va.

“It is the end of the season. Summer’s over!” Jimmy told me backstage, where we chatted for a few minutes before the concert.

Buffett mentioned that a highlight of the summer was his July Gulf Coast concert for 35,000 fans. “They needed a break,” he said, from the oil spill disaster. He mentioned he’s still involved with projects tied to recovery efforts and environmental education in the area. And he noted his new Margaritaville Beach Hotel in Pensacola is doing well. “Sold out for this weekend!”
