Former Coral Reefer Jay Spell passed away last week at the age of 65 after a battle with cancer.
From the Fayobserver:
Blind at birth, Jay Spell saw music early on as a way of life.
This journeyman sideman, long regarded as a gifted keyboard player, mapped out a solid career working with such recording artists as Jimmy Buffett, Emmylou Harris, Pam Tillis, Ronnie Milsap, John Mayall, Eddie Floyd, Randy Travis, Robert Earl Keen, Tower of Power and Jose Feliciano.
Spell appears on the popular 1978 Buffett album “Son of a Son of a Sailor” and he can be seen playing in Buffett’s band in the movie “FM“. He was also standing behind the keyboards when that fun-loving troubadour performed on “Saturday Night Live“.
