From Billboard: “Paying Platforms in Use: Jimmy Buffett Plays SXSW From Home with StageIt”
Using the pay-per-view online concert platform StageIt, leisure music legend Jimmy Buffett gave a virtual performance at South by Southwest in Austin this weekend. It was the singer’s first performance since a January appearance in Sydney, Australia, where he was hospitalized after falling off the stage.
Buffett played a three-song set from his St. Bart’s home at the StageIt event, which was held in celebration of the site’s coming out of beta mode.
Billboard recently featured StageIt as a new online broadcasting platform with which artists can interact directly with fans and earn money through a micropayment and “tip jar” system. The site has also featured performances by artists such as Debbie Gibson, the Plain White T’s, and even Uncharted artist Tyler Ward.

Lindsay, would it be possible for you to take a course in basic grammar and proper sentence structure before your next post?

Ya know?…I gotta tell ya. I was crazy about the JB of ole. This new, greedy, commercialized, media crazed JB is really getting old, fast. I’ve seen him here in Tampa three times, now, and couldn’t wait for the concert/tailgate parties. This upcoming, 4/16 concert, I just don’t know. My enthusiasm is all but gone, and on my priority list, it has dropped significantly. I don’t like this; we need the old JB back, with some sincerity and integrity. Just an opinion, so don’t get too worked up over this!

He’s greedy?? For utilizing technology? He played the show for FREE when he could have charged any sum he wanted.
It was for SXSW and I was one of the lucky people in the audience watching from Austin TX while Jimmy was LIVE from St. Barts. Not sure where the greedy comment comes from.
Might I suggest you get your facts straight?

I agree Sean. For how many years has he made all concerts available for free over Radio Margaritaville? I can’t think of anyone else that does that for every performance. It costs money to do a live event broadcast and you’re making a premium product available to everyone for free over the internet.

Isn’t this the 3rd time since he fell of the stage? (1) played some benefit with Kenny C (2) played the wedding in KW…
As for the commercialization – Jimmy overkill – who cares… and stop complaining… I have followed Jimmy since the late 80′s and will still take him any time I can. Helps me forget about the BS of my workaholic everyday life… Fins up!

Hey Big Al, You’re so right; who cares? It’s just fun writing in. Not like JB really reads any of this crap. As far as commercialization, you gotta admit, he’s not what he used to be. “Jumped the shark.” Who better than JB, to use that term with? If we did’t have all these various opinions to laugh or get mad at, what fun would it be? Seriously though, I’m not as excited this time, as I was in the past. Oh, ya, I’ll definitely be there, 04/16. So, with all of this BS, I’m still loyal!!!

completely agree with you in that the fun is the writing – not that i do that often – i love reading the comments although some get way too serious! Being in the UK we don’t hear any news on JB so we rely on this site and margaritaville to give us info – part of me even likes the commercialisation – strange person that i am!
