From PNJ.com: “”Night at the Museum” with Jimmy Buffett

“I kind of do this for a living, so I’ve seen a lot of crowds,” the singer/songwriter said, voice echoing through the National Naval Aviation Museum on Thursday night. “But I’ve got airplanes in attack mode aimed at me.”

Buffett grinned as his fans, gathered around the small stage, hooted their appreciation. He marveled at the jets once more.

“This is pretty cool.”

Fans from all over the U.S. shelled out $500 each for the intimate, hour-long concert which raised about $250,000 for the Naval Aviation Museum Foundation.

Wearing leis and Hawaiian shirts, flip-flops and flirty sundresses, they batted beach balls and imbibed in complimentary margaritas.

Dancing on the museum’s blue carpet, fans turned every song into a sing-a-long, from “Changes in Latitudes” to “Grapefruit-Juicy Fruit.”

“It’s nice when you only play two notes and everyone recognizes the tune,” joked Buffett, who was accompanied by guitarist Mac McAnally and steel drummer Robert Greenidge. “We must be doing something right.”

The AtlanticCityWeekly.com has an article on a possible show in August: “Jimmy Buffett Coming Back to Atlantic City?

It’s also coming from the Parrothead rumor mill that’s been getting its feathers all ruffled for weeks about the possible return of the world’s wealthiest and most famous beach bum.

After playing back-to-back summer dates in Atlantic City in 2008 and 2009 — his first Boardwalk gigs ever — Jimmy Buffett sat out the summer of ’10, much to the disappointment of his loyal local legion of fans, who call themselves Parrotheads.

Now comes several unconfirmed reports that Buffett’s 2011 Fin Land tour will stop in Atlantic City in August, although no dates have been mentioned. Buffett’s Web site doesn’t include Atlantic City on the list of announced concerts, although his annual visit to the Camden waterfront is scheduled for June 23.

However, Buffett has nothing scheduled between Chicago on July 23 and Jones Beach in New York on Aug. 19. In the past, the Buffett camp announces a block of shows and then fills in additional dates later. Since he’s booked pretty solidly from the Jones Beach gig through the last week in August, an Atlantic City show — if it’s going to happen — would probably be something during the first three weeks of the month.

Myrtle Beach will welcome its newest entertainment and dining venue in May 2011. The SkyWheel Myrtle Beach will team up with Jimmy Buffett’s Land Shark Bar & Grill and Land Shark Surfshack for an exciting new attraction on the oceanfront in downtown Myrtle Beach. The SkyWheel Myrtle Beach will be 200 feet tall overlooking the Myrtle Beach Oceanfront Boardwalk and Promenade with Land Shark Bar & Grill right next door serving up delicious food and cool cocktails.

From the Post and Courier: Strand’s SkyWheel not a ride, it’s ‘an experience’

Crews were busy last week building the other part of the attraction, Jimmy Buffett’s LandShark Bar & Grill. They have about three weeks to finish so the restaurant and ride can meet the scheduled May 19 opening.

The Pensacola News Journal has an article: “McAnally looks forward to Buffett’s museum show” (Jimmy Buffett at the National Naval Aviation Museum in Pensacola Florida, Thursday April 28th)

Mac McAnally will accompany Buffett in an intimate performance Thursday night at the National Naval Aviation Museum. In a phone interview, McAnally said the sold-out fundraising concert is something that he and Buffett are both excited about.

“We were just bragging about that show last night in Raleigh,” McAnally said. “Jimmy’s been a longtime supporter of the military and the Wounded Warrior Project, and so have I, drafting off him in the NASCAR sense. Both of our fathers were connected to the military. (Jimmy) is a sailor and a military historian, so the Navy and the air, it’s an interest to him. I hesitate to speak for him, but I know there’s a passion there. There’s nothing not to like.”

McAnally said the show will consist of he and Buffett on guitar, accompanied by steel drummer Robert Greenidge. “It’s a reincarnation of what we did two years ago in Tahiti,” McAnally said. “We enjoy playing that configuration, so we’re looking forward to it.”

McAnally said he’s looking forward to seeing the museum for the first time. “I’m somebody who takes being an American seriously,” he sad. “My father was one of seven brothers who were all military. Out of my musician circle of friends in Nashville, I’ve had a couple of friends that have told me I needed to see the museum, so I’m looking forward to it. And I’m honored to be a part of all of this.
