From the Sun Herald: “Margaritaville could be back on the fast track”
Plans for Jimmy Buffett’s Margaritaville Casino & Restaurant will go before the Mississippi Gaming Commission during a special meeting at 1:30 pm Thursday at the Bolton State Building at 1141 Bayview Ave.
Developers, including singer-songwriter Jimmy Buffett and Coast casino veteran Tom Brosig are asking the Gaming Commission to approve the design and financing for a casino resort off Fifth Street on Back Bay. They also are seeking approval to proceed with construction.
The plans approved by the Biloxi Planning Commission and City Council call for a $48 million resort with a casino, a Margaritaville-themed restaurant, retail, events center and marina. The project was fast-tracked through city approval, but wasn’t able to make it onto the March Gaming Commission agenda. Instead of waiting until the April 28 meeting in Jackson, the interim meeting was called.
The developers of the new Margaritaville Casino & Restaurant on Back Bay hoped to break ground in March and open by New Year’s Eve.
