Jimmy Buffett made a special appearance at the Ilo show at Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett NY on Monday night.
From ContinentalDrifterIII: Went to see Ilo at the Stephen Talkhouse in Amagansett last night and I couldn’t have asked for a better opening band. It was Jimmy Buffett!!! He played “Changes In Latitudes”, “Grapefruit Juicyfruit”, “Weather Is Here”, “Pencil Thin Mustache”, “Son of a Sailor”, “Boat Drinks”, “Come Monday”, “Margaritaville” and then played “Uncle John’s Band” for “friends” of his in the audience – Bill and Hillary Clinton. Then Ilo came out and he rocked! Jimmy came back out to play “Volcano” with Ilo. Jimmy hung out and even came into the crowd at the end of the show and took pictures with the fans and signed autographs!!!
Jimmy told a great story last night about how he was asked to play a surprise party for Bill Clinton when he was in office. He said whoever was planning the party had very limited money so it was “Patriotic Duty” to go and perform. Unfortunately the day of this party was the same day that Jerry Garcia passed away. He intended on playing Uncle John’s Band as a tribute to start off the show. Jimmy arrived early at the White House and was given a tour around the grounds. He said he took pictures all over like he lived there and “Gypsies In The Palace” immediately came to mind. So he opted to open with GITP instead. So he said last night that after all these years he will now play “Uncle John’s Band” as a tribute to Jerry and for the Clintons.

From the East Hampton Star’s Montauk Report: Yesterday afternoon, the state police closed off Montauk Point, Turtle Cove, etc. to surfers or anyone else. Surfers turned back, bummed. Great surf at the lighthouse right.
Jimmy Buffett, on his standup board, saved a kid who had gone out on a body board with no swim fins and got caught in the rip heading out to sea.
This morning, the Atlantic Ocean joined the community of Ditch Plain, water pouring in at the East Deck. So far, Soundview is okay, but that will change when the wind comes north.

The Indianapolis Star has a review of last night’s show: “Buffett draws big crowd, again”
The numbers become more impressive every time Jimmy Buffett comes to town.
Thursday night’s show at Verizon Wireless Music Center was Buffett’s 29th performance at the Noblesville amphitheater, and he’s made a tour stop at the venue for 22 consecutive years.
At age 64, the Alabama native still can attract a Hoosier audience of 24,000.
He sustained a health scare in January, when he fell off a stage in Sydney, Australia, and canceled his next appearance because of head and arm injuries.
But as his “Welcome to Fin Land” tour winds down, Buffett is emphasizing that he’s not slowing down.

Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band’s “Welcome to Fin Land” tour continued last night with a show at the Riverbend Music Center – Cincinnati OH
The set list from the show is now available along with comments from those who listed to the show on Radio Margaritaville.com.
Some changes to the set list included “Gypsies In The Palace” (last played 01-26-2011 at the Hordern Pavilion in Sydney) and for the final encore “Defying Gravity” (dedicated to Neil Armstrong, last played 10-21-2010 Irvine, CA).
Reviews of the show from Cincinnati.com: “Jimmy Buffett falls head over heels for Cincinnati”

Without a new record to sell, Buffett concentrated on the old stuff. If this concert had an objective, it was to get up on stage, play the hits, and try to not get in the way or fall down. The stage was appropriately bare-boned. A video screen plus three oversized beach umbrellas were the only props.
“Look, I’m 64,” he said. “I don’t give a (damn) anymore.”
Perhaps he meant he doesn’t care in a sort of existential sense. Don’t worry, Cincinnati. He still loves you.
“Needless to say this town has inspired me for mucho años. Thank you, Cincinnati, for all the years. Nowhere else on the planet have we played five shows in a row, and we never will,” Buffett said.

For Bloomberg: “Hamptons Scene: Daniel Loeb, Anjelica Huston, Chris Blackwell at Rum Fest”

Jimmy Buffett attended a party by Chris Blackwell for the U.S. debut of Blackwell Fine Jamaican Rum.
The excuse for the party, held at the restaurant Navy Beach, was the U.S. debut of Blackwell Fine Jamaican Rum. Other guests included Jimmy Buffett, chef Marcus Samuelsson and Julian Schnabel.
The rum’s namesake is Chris Blackwell, founder of Island Records, who popularized reggae music through Bob Marley and other Jamaican artists. He also founded Island Outpost, a group of resorts.
Blackwell’s latest venture is a dark rum with hints of caramel and toasted coconut. The bottle features a map of Jamaica noting the locations of the Island Outpost resorts.
Jimmy Buffett reflected on his summer break from performing. “You know what I did this year? Nothing,” he said. “I hung out, enjoyed my kids and the weather.”

The New York Post has a review of Friday’s show at the Jones Beach Amphitheater: “A mighty Fin time”
Even though Jimmy Buffett was killer at his rain-soaked, sold-out Jones Beach gig Friday, the real stars of the event were his fans known collectively as Parrotheads.
For them the show didn’t start at 9 p.m. when Jimmy started strumming, accompanied by flash ‘n’ boom lightning ‘n’ thunder. It began as soon as their feet hit the vast concrete parking lot — an all-you-can-drink Buffett for New Yorkers in a Margaritaville state of mind.
On that count, the show, which was slightly delayed, started after dark with Buffett looking very beachy in a T-shirt, shorts and bare feet.
He played a greatest-hits set featuring excellent versions of “Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes,” “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” “Margaritaville,” and “Son of a Son of a Sailor.” There were also a couple of rocking covers including Van Morrison’s “Brown Eyed Girl” played early and CS&N’s “Southern Cross” offered near the finale.
Nobody would have faulted Buffett and Jones organizers if the show had been canceled because of lightning safety issues. After the encore, Buffett’s bald head was still shiny with rain as he said, “We made the right call — hope you had a good time.” His ear-to-ear grin said everyone did, him included.

From the Las Vegas Sun: “Margaritaville Casino to hire 250 workers”
Attention out-of-work Las Vegans: Jimmy Buffett might have a job for you.
Buffett and the Flamingo are hiring at least 250 workers for a new Margaritaville Casino slated to open in October. Positions include table game dealers, supervisors and flair bartenders.
The minicasino, which replaces a steakhouse in the Flamingo, will be the first to boast Buffett’s brand and is expected to include a 15,000-square-foot casino floor, 22 gaming tables, 220 slot machines and a centerpiece “Five O’Clock Somewhere” bar. It will build on the existing Margaritaville bar and restaurant that anchors the hotel.
Job descriptions call for employees who can “ensure that every Parrothead leaves with a change in their attitude, if not their latitude.”
People interested can apply online here or in person at the Caesars Entertainment Employment Center on Flamingo Road. If applying online, make sure to search for both “The Flamingo” and “Margaritaville Casino.”

From the New York Post – Page Six: “Songs for 60th”
Billy Joel paid tribute to Jimmy Buffet’s wife at her 60th birthday party, praising her for their long-standing partnership. Joel told us, “I said that Jane Buffet knows the secret of staying happily married to a rock and roll man. And I sang Otis Redding’s ‘Dock of the Bay.’ ” The star-studded party at Buffet’s North Haven home Saturday night had VIPs partying in a tent and treated to performances by Joel, Jon Bon Jovi, Buffett — who wed Jane in 1977 — and James Taylor. Guests included Michael Douglas, Catherine Zeta-Jones, Jane Fonda, Jack Nicholson, Harrison Ford, Calista Flockhart, Richard Gere, Anjelica Huston and Pink Floyd’s Roger Waters.
