HawaiiNewsNow.com has an interview with Jimmy Buffett about his appearance on Monday’s epissode of Hawaii Five-0.

Hawaii Five-0 continues to reel in marquee names as guest stars. Tonight’s episode included the Margaritaville man himself, Jimmy Buffett – as a character he created but never expected to bring to life on TV. Who better to bring that island attitude to Hawaii Five-0 than the Prince of the Parrotheads?

“It just worked out perfectly that I was headed over here, anyway, for a little vacation,” says Buffett, “and I didn’t mind doing two days of work like this in the middle of my vacation!”

The 65 year old singer-songwriter-author-actor-producer-entrepreneur is still very selective about his projects. He wanted to guest star because he’s been a Five-0 fan since the 60′s.

“I like the way, in going to a 2011 audience, they honor the authenticity and the legacy of the great Hawaii cop show,” explains Buffett.

Buffett plays Frank Bama – a veteran pilot who helps the Five-0 team rescue one of its own. Frank Bama is actually a character in Buffett’s 1992 novel, “Where is Joe Merchant?” Show writers thought it’d be interesting to bring Bama to life.

“I always thought he was a great character,” says Buffett, “so I was really pleased when Paul, the writer, contacted us about this character that they were looking for me to play.”

Castmates say Buffett’s got a great vibe. Terry O’Quinn recalls meeting him at a party. “He introduced himself and I knew that name, but I didn’t think he’d be standing in line behind me to get a drink! Jimmy Buffett. And I’m thinking, ‘Wow, I know a guy who sings by that name!’”

Scott Caan laughs that he once got the singer mixed up with billionaire “Warren” Buffett. “I was like, ‘The guy with all that money sings those songs, man? I don’t get it. Like, how did he make all that money singing?’”

After being in several scenes together, there’s no confusion now. Buffett says he’s had a ball on set and in the islands. “I came here many, many years ago and fell in love with Hawaii and love coming back here.”

The welcome mat’s always out, Jimmy – even beyond Margaritaville.

Last nights episode of Hawaii Five-0 is now available online at CBS.com. Jimmy Buffett guest stars as Frank Bama, a helicopter pilot and friend of Joe White’s who helps the Five-0 in North Korea.

From TV-Guide: Cheers to Hawaii Five-0 for saying “Aloha” to Jimmy Buffett.

Casting the son of a son of a sailor as Frank Bama — a grizzled Vietnam-era helicopter pilot who airlifted Danno and the Five-0 squad into North Korea to rescue an imprisoned McGarrett — could’ve turned out to be the worst kind of cheeseball-in-paradise stunt. But Buffett held his own opposite old pros Terry O’Quinn (as McGarrett’s mentor) and David Keith (as a Navy SEAL) and brought a welcome change of attitude to the often-humorless reboot.

Mr. Margaritaville fired off a clever inside joke after Scott Caan’s Danno declined his offer of liquor: “I’m more of a margarita man.” Replied Bama, “Can’t say I blame ya.” Turns out CBS was doing a favor to more than just Buffett’s “Parrothead” fans when they booked ‘im.

Introducing Jake Sullivan: Investigator and Chief Prosecutor of the U.S. Attorney’s Miami Office (and a Jimmy Buffett fan).

Inspired by titles of Jimmy Buffett songs this new series of political thrillers by Chip Bell is set against the sultry backdrop of Miami and the Keys. “Come Monday“, the first book in the series, begins with a surprising twist. Jake’s spectacularly successful career takes a nose-dive when his obsession with a case, and a conflict with his nemesis and boss, Attorney General Benjamin Matthews, leads to a sadistic killer being set free on the streets of Miami. Feeling despondent, he leaves his wife and two girls, for the anonymity of Key West…Margaritaville—where a person’s past is his to hide. But people keep trying to kill him. Finding the thread that links the attempts on his life to his past unravels a gripping plot that leads all the way to the White House.

Trying to Reason with Hurricane Season“, finds Jake back in Miami, working in his old job as Chief Prosecutor of the U.S. Attorney’s Miami Office, and trying to reconstruct a life with the love of his life…his wife. The President of the United States is on the verge of signing a treaty with Cuba, and a huge ceremony is being planned in Miami. But when the Secret Service learns that an assassin hired by the mysterious organization, “The Birth of New Madrid,” is stalking both the president and the Castro brothers, Jake is called in to manage security and find the killer. As tension mounts on land, and hurricanes threaten Miami and the Keys, Jake discovers that even dead enemies can wreak havoc from the grave. Stunned by the realization that he is the target, and the killer is willing to take everyone down with him, Jake forces a one-on-one battle of explosive proportions.

Chip Bell loves to throw in a little colorful history in all of his novels, and “Havana Daydreaming” (coming this Spring 2012) is no exception. Flash back to Havana 1958. Batista is in power and corruption rules. The mob’s accountant Meyer Lansky is poised to open the crown jewel of the mob’s gambling empire when Castro descends from the mountains. All bets are off, and Lansky moves millions of dollars out of Cuba. In an intriguing plot Jake and his friend, Mike Lang become involved in a search for the missing treasure.

Chip Bell is a practicing attorney who lives in Western Pennsylvania, but wishes he lived in the Keys. He has spent considerable time in Key West, however, so Buffett fans will thrill as he takes them along familiar streets to the classic haunts and restaurants with colorful characters that make Key West the place that it is.
