Fun and thrills in Key West, like you’ve never seen before! Author John H. Cunningham, had quite the time at the 20th anniversary of the Meeting of the Minds this past November, in support of his debut novel “Red Right Return, a Buck Reilly Adventure“. The book features Buck Reilly, a guy who lost everything and moved to Key West where he lives in the La Concha Hotel and operates Last Charter and Salvage aboard (fictitiously) the same 1946 Grumman Widgeon that Jimmy Buffett crashed off Nantucket. A fun read and great example of the escapist philosophy shared by Parrot Heads everywhere. Buck Reilly has been compared to a modern day Travis McGee, Dirk Pitt or even Frank Bama, but is more Everyman than superhero.
The series takes you from Key West to Cuba and the Bahamas in this series debut, which will be followed by Green To Go in the Spring. A must- read for Parrot Heads and lovers of Key West alike. Cunningham, pictured with Mac McAnally, Mike Utley and Robert Greenidge, started off with a book signing at Pepe’s Cafe, then had radio interviews with US1 Radio’s Morning Magazine with Bill Becker and Island 107 with Rolland, and then a TV interview with Jenna Stauffer and Rick Lopez on the new Keys TV WEYW, but spent much of the time hanging out with Trop Rock musicians at the Meet the Musicians booth at the Casa Marina where he signed many copies of Red Right Return.
When Jimmy and the Coral Reefers took the stage on Duval Street, the La Concha Hotel invited John to watch from the second floor balcony right next to the stage. The trip was capped off when John met the Coral Reefers and gave them copies of Red Right Return, thanking them for years of pleasure listening to their music.
