Just call it Lucky No. 7. Alabama native Mac McAnally has won the 2014 CMA Award for Musician of the Year, continuing his streak in this category.
McAnally — a guitarist, songwriter, singer and producer — has won this award six times previously, 2008-2013. He faced some tough competition this year, besting fellow nominees Sam Bush, Jerry Douglas, Dan Huff and Paul Franklin.
McAnally, 57, was born in Red Bay and grew up in Belmont, Miss. He maintains strong ties to Alabama, and has a home and studio in Sheffield.
He’s a solo artist with a 12-album catalog, a go-to songwriter for many country artists and a longtime member of Jimmy Buffett’s band, the Coral Reefers.
