From the Courier Journal: “Margaritaville is coming to Louisville with this Jimmy Buffett-inspired hotel”
Bourbon Country is about to get a taste of Margaritaville. Another 150 hotel rooms are planned for downtown Louisville, and this time they’re all Jimmy Buffett inspired.
Compass by Margaritaville Hotel and Resorts is bringing its resort-style vibe to 522 S. Fourth St., according to Kayla Louttit, spokesperson for the company.
That site is currently home to a parking lot, and is a half a block from the entrance to Fourth Street Live and two blocks from the newly expanded and remodeled Kentucky International Convention Center.
The hotel is expected to open in the third quarter of 2021 and will feature a 5 o’Clock Somewhere Bar and Margaritaville Restaurant. The property is expected to be the third of its kind in the country.
Downtown Louisville has welcomed a number of hotel projects in recent years, but the Jimmy Buffett inspired brand is unique because its multigenerational, said Rebecca Matheny, executive director for Louisville Downtown Partnership.
“That brand and that hotel, people are very devoted to it,” she said. “It’s got a lot of energy.”
She expects it’ll fit well with the all-inclusive nature and the restaurant culture at nearby Fourth Street Live.
The company broke ground on its first Compass hotel in mid-March on Anna Maria Sound near Sarasota, Florida, and that hotel is slated to open in early 2020. A second is expected to open in Beaufort, North Carolina, at the end of next year.
