For the first “Songs You Don’t Know By Heart” video Jimmy Buffett performs the song “The Captain and the Kid”. Jimmy’s daughter Delaney asks him why he has only performed the song 6 times in his career and he responds where did you get that from … BuffettNews.com.

Lovely
Awesome! Great song! How about Dearh of an unpopular poet?
Given that he has only played this 6 times, I feel privileged to have heard Jimmy sing The Captain and the Kid in Newfoundland in 2019! where his Grandfather grew up! He finished the show with it. It was perfect!
Jimmy music always make me happy his song comes on anywhere and I smile and think life is good.
This is the type of music and concert to die for. Just pure music – not overpowering with lyrics you can understand and generates emotion. I won’t add to the 12000 plus requests but I think you know the die hard fans will be asking for.
P.s. ok I could not resist how about Changing Channels or the Coast is Clear – for when we can see past this whole virus situation!
This is one of my favorite songs by Jimmy. It always makes me think of my Dad, who was a Navy Captain who died over 15 years ago. I actually ‘rewrote’ the song to make it more applicable to my Dad, who flew Navy aircraft off aircraft carriers, and was a Blue Angel. Still makes me sad when I think of it ….
” I never use to miss the chance
To climb upon his knee
And listen to the many tales of life upon the sea, and in the air
We’d go flying off of carriers
We talk of things he did
Tomorrow just a day away for the captain and the kid
His world had gone from flying jets
To mowing his back yard
He never could adjust to land
Although He tried so hard
We both were growing older then
And Wiser with our years
That’s when I came to understand
The course his heart still steers
He died too many years ago
While spring was in the air
And though I cried, I was so proud
To love a man so rare
He’s somewhere in the heavens now
That’s where he ought to be
With one hand on the rudder stick
He’s wagglin’ his wings at me
I never use to miss the chance
To climb upon his knee
And listen to the many tales of life upon the sea, and in the air
We’d go flying off of carriers
We talk of things he did
Tomorrow just a day away for the Captain and the kid,
For the Captain, and this kid.”
I absolutely loved this. A song most anyone from
a military family can truly appreciate.
I would love to hear one of my favourite JB songs which he never plays , I Love The Now it`s a great up temple song.
Great song. Saw you preform with Steve Goodman at the Aricrown in Chicago. Ya that’s how far back I go. Even snuck back stage. How about Buc Buc the Turtle ? Radio interview impromptu
Buck buck the turtle feeing rather fertile
Excellent thank you
I cried happy tears, my dad’s been gone 9yrs and on a cold January Michigan day. I appreciate how Jimmy has this song with his family and has shared with us all. I won’t request any special tunes or expectations. I’ve been a parrothead a long time 30+ years, survived many tailgates that started by 9 am, day of show, not to mention the mission to arrive at the venue. All days and times I’m grateful for. Now, we don’t know. Thanks for the cabin fever tour. I met new friends, and had happy days. Peace, JB, family, Reefers, and all fin friends worldwide!
Via the previous article and lots of requests. I see this as anything but all of that. I go back to before the beach cd, and have read all the books. I hope it won’t be a request line. The symbolism doesn’t inspire that! Thank you Savanah Delany!
Meaning, the previous article “songs you don’t know by heart”. Come on partotheads it’s not a request line. Educational, inspirational, historical….maybe a song you don’t know! Sorry for mis spell Delaney.
I’m so happy A Good Life all the Way was written and published. This endeavor provokes me to think please, add to the stories of Jimmy’s adventures. Tell the takes, capture him telling the stories as they were and unfolded. It’s so fun! It’s a legacy in the works!!
