Buffett to attend memorial service for Walter Cronkite

Jimmy Buffett is scheduled to perform at a memorial service for his friend Walter Cronkite next month in Manhattan.

From Politico.com: “Barack Obama invited to salute Walter Cronkite

President Obama has been invited to eulogize Walter Cronkite, the legendary CBS News anchorman, at a memorial service in Manhattan next month, network sources said.

Former President Bill Clinton has accepted an invitation to speak at the service, to be held at Lincoln Center at 10:30 a.m. on Sept. 9.

Also speaking at the service will be Katie Couric, anchor and managing editor of the “CBS Evening News”; Sean McManus, president of CBS News and Sports; and Leslie Moonves, CBS Corp.’s president and chief executive officer.

Performances are scheduled by Jimmy Buffett and Mickey Hart, who was a Grateful Dead drummer.

Summerzcool in Detroit

Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band played on Thursday August 13th, 2009 at the DTE Energy Music Theatre in Clarkston MI as part of the 2009 Summerzcool Tour.

The set list along with comments are now available.

A couple of changes to the set list included “Frank And Lola” (with John Lovell) and “Nobody from Nowhere“. Ilo Ferreira was a special guest for the show and he sang the song “Let Me Love You“. The show ended with Jimmy doing an acoustic version of “Lovely Criuse“.

Summerzcool in Indianapolis

Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band played on Tuesday August 11th, 2009 at the Verizon Wireless Music Center in Indianapolis IN as part of the 2009 Summerzcool Tour.

The set list along with comments are now available.

The show ended with Jimmy doing an acoustic version of “Trying To Reason With Hurricane Season“.

At Verizon Wireless Music Center on Tuesday, Buffett at least played new songs to distinguish this year’s show from 2008’s.

Most notable was the timely and topical “A Lot to Drink About” — a folksy shuffle based on yachts and luxury automobiles lost in the economic downturn. The lyrics aim a dart for Bernie Madoff, noting his clients are left to self-medicate with “stinkweed.”
