Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band performed at the North Charleston Coliseum in Charleston SC last night. The Set List the show is now available.

Some changes to the set list included “Honey Do” (last played 01-16-2010: Bloody Mary’s – Bora Bora) and “Prince Of Tides” (last played 02-05-2003: Colonial Center – Columbia, SC).

The Post and Courier has a review of the show: “Parrotheads party, Buffett gets very sunny Lowcountry welcome”

It has been more than a decade since Jimmy Buffett has performed live in the Charleston area, despite having a large and faithful following here.

Buffett last played North Charleston Coliseum on Feb. 26, 1997. Since then the singer has used the Coliseum to rehearse for other tours, but those performances were not open to the general public.

Buffett has been known to visit the Lowcountry even when he isn’t touring, and has been seen booking charter fishing trips or picking up supplies for his seaplane at local stores.

Unseasonably warm weather made it all the easier for fans to tailgate Thursday in the coliseum’s parking lot, which was awash in rainbow of Hawaiian shirts and tropical drinks. Once inside, the crowd was an impressive variety of demographics: everyone from baby boomers who, like Buffett, now qualify for retirement (Buffett turned 65 Christmas Day), to those folk’s grandchildren, and every age in between. Apparently when it comes to enjoying a “Cheeseburger in Paradise” or discussing the finer points of a pencil-thin mustache, age knows no bounds.

The Hollywood Reporter has an article: ‘Frank Marshall Enters Facebook Gaming Arena With ‘Margaritaville Online’”

Frank Marshall has spent decades as one of Hollywood’s leading producers bringing movies like War Horse, Raiders of the Lost Ark and The Sixth Sense to theaters. Now he’s stepped into the virtual realm as executive producer of the new THQ Facebook game Margaritaville Online with long-time friend Jimmy Buffett.

THR: How did you partner with Jimmy Buffett on Margaritaville Online?

Frank Marshall: Jimmy and I met over 30 years ago and we’ve been good friends ever since. We have a similar background and share a lot of the same interests. We’ve talked about movies, books, songs and just about anything you can think of.

I have always loved the world he’s created and the fact that he really lives in it. Jimmy and I have been trying to do something together for years and when the idea of a Facebook game came along, it seemed like a natural. What people love about Jimmy Buffett is his lifestyle and the world he’s created. Whenever the real world gets to be too much, you can escape to his world through this game, no matter where you are.

THR: Where did the idea for a Facebook game come from?

Marshall:I was actually meeting with Danny Bilson, EVP Core Games from THQ, about The Last Airbender game. We started talking about other things we could do. I wanted to do something fun, so I thought, instead of creating one of these violent worlds, why not go to paradise? Why not somewhere you could go to play games and have a party? Initially when we started talking about it, it was actually going to be made into a Wii game. But as social games increased in popularity, things shifted and we saw great potential of creating a social experience based on Jimmy’s lifestyle.

THR: What kind of input did you have on the gameplay itself?

Marshall: While working with THQ, we found these great guys based in Vancouver, Exploding Barrel Games, who are huge Jimmy fans. This was key because they already knew his world. They came up with a template for the game and then Jimmy took it and “Buffettized” it. I’ve been steering and facilitating, putting everybody together, helping with the storytelling from a movie point of view, picking the camera angles and what the characters can do. It’s been a lot of fun. It’s like a mini-movie for me, combining all the same elements, story, characters, music, visuals and so on.

The Margaritaville Beach Resort isn’t even open yet, and it’s already booked it’s first big event. Thursday night, the site of the future Margaritaville will be hosting The Huddle, a conference for travel planners, in order to get Hollywood on the map as a premiere destination.

And the future, for Margaritaville — which is tied to singer Jimmy Buffett — is looking bright, said Tabatchnick, during a presentation to the Hollywood City Commission Wednesday.

“We are getting there,” he said. “We are going through the process.”

Though there have been some delays — including pushing back the opening from March 2014 to August 2014 — Tabatchnick said within 60 to 90days he should have the building permits, community development district approval for the public garage and most of the financing secured.

Jimmy Buffett’s music is the tonic that allows his fans to reclaim their youth, even if it is just for a few hours. Bouncing beach balls, loud flowered shirts, the mass consumption of fruity cocktails all made Tuesday night’s concert in Veterans Memorial Arena a frat party for the over 50 set.

His show was two hours of fun. His nine-piece band plus two back up singers provided a wave of sound on which Buffett, dressed in an A1A T-shirt and board shorts, easily rode. No stranger to these parts in his youth, Buffett sprinkled in regional references throughout the show making sure to mention the Tradewinds Lounge in St. Augustine where he performed before becoming a star. After “Grapefruit — Juicy Fruit” he even struck the Tebow pose saying, “Tim’s a Parrot Head. I’m the devil in his life.”

In between appearances on the AmericanAirlines court, Shane Battier spent Saturday night in the audience. Battier is a self-proclaimed Parrothead, got to meet “one of his heroes,” Jimmy Buffett, prior to Buffett’s show. “He’s an innovator,” Battier said. “He encapsulates a lifestyle, a mindset.”

Battier’s favorite song: Tin Cup Chalice. “It takes me to a dive bar in the keys,” Battier said.

Buffett tailored Saturday’s concert to the crowd, repeatedly referencing the time official Joe Forte ejected him from a Heat-Knicks game in 2001. “I can say anything I want up here and cannot get thrown out of his stadium,” Buffett said, according to my colleague Hal Habib. “I don’t see any referees out there. That’s power.”

Then he played the encore wearing a Heat coach’s shirt, for which he thanked Pat Riley but also said he thought the Heat was raking in enough cash they could afford to spare the shirt. Riles was then shown on the video boards twice, getting an ovation.

From the Margarillas: Miami Backstage — Jimmy’s gift from Shane Battier of the Miami Heat!

Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band’s “Welcome to Fin Land” tour got back underway last night with a show at the American Airlines Arena in Miami, FL. Buffett last performed at the venue back on February 13th, 2003 during the Far Side of the World Tour.

The Set List and Comments from those that listened to the show are now available.

Some changes to the set list included: “Everybody’s Got A Cousin In Miami” (last played 04-18-2006 Phoenix, AZ) , “We Are The People Our Parents Warned Us About” (last played 02-23-2010), and “Creola” featuring Nadirah was in honor of Ralph MacDonald. For the final encore Jimmy performed “Trying To Reason With Hurricane Season”

The Miami Herald has a review of the show: “Jimmy Buffett tailors Miami concert to South Florida”

Perhaps it was the Miami Heat’s victory over the New York Knicks the night before at the AmericanAirlines Arena but Heat fan Jimmy Buffett seemed in particularly good spirits and warm voice Saturday night at the AmericanAirlines before a sizable, but not quite sold-out, crowd for his first concert of 2012.

“This is as wild as the Heat game last night,” Buffett grinned before thousands of fans after the concert opening deep album cut, The Wino and I Know.

Just before he started his first encore song some two hours later, the evergreen Fins, a barefoot Buffett thanked Pat Riley for the spiffy black shirt the Heat coach supposedly offered him backstage. The spotlight fell on Riley in the stands and he apparently seemed ready to partake in, or at least observe, the Fins concert ritual that Parrot Heads the world over have turned into a kind of boomer aerobics since the tour staple’s release in the summer of 1979.

Buffett also took a cheerful jab at his history inside this particular bayfront venue. “I can say anything I want on this stage and not get thrown out,” he cracked, a reference to an incident in Feb. 2001 when he was ejected from his courtside seat by a referee during a Heat/Knicks game for reportedly engaging in language saltier than that found in some of his classics such as Why Don’t We Get Drunk.
