Re: Encores

IMHO - unless you're a completist...no. Just download your favorites or stuff you may not have heard before. Way too much banter, average vocals and poorly EQ'ed guitar.

Re: Encores

Technically, the DI box doesn't influence the sound...just balances the signal. It has to be the type of pick-up used in the guitars - and there are some really good ones available these days - or the EQing at the soundboard. In any event, it doesn't put Jimmy best foot forward. His acoustic guitar(...

Encores

When I first heard about this album, I thought it was a cool idea - unplugged versions of classics from the vault and other geographic-appropriate songs for various venues. But after a few listens, I think the concept wears out very quickly. Way too much banter which may add to the ambience but gets...

Kenny Chesney = Jimmy Buffett Lite?

Just wondering if anyone feels the same as me. I like Kenny Chesney well enough but it seems to me that with each album, video and tour, he pushes closer and closer to Jimmy's turf. Sure there's room for two major acts in this genre, but when I hear some of Chesney's latest lyrics about pirates, tik...

An Apples to Mangoes Comparison

As a long standing fan of both the Boss and Bubba, I can only say that article misses the mark. They are both consumate entertainers and know how to put on a great show. Between the two of them, they have put on some of the best concerts I've ever been to. I have seen both of them grow from coffee h...

Jimmy opened for Loggins and Messina on one of their 70's tours...perhaps there was some cross fertilization. I saw L&M several times and their shows could easily have served as a model for Jimmy's later tours. I thinl they may have been wearing aloha shirts before Jimmy was! Also, L&M's &qu...

Any Wrigley Bleacher Pix?

Does anyone have pix of Jimmy and Mac doing the encore from the bleachers? That would be cool to see. 8)

Lots of good live music in and around Waikiki. Try Chai's at the Aloha Tower near the Al Moana Mall (there's a great ukulele store in the mall called The Ukulele House- get yourself one!) In the Hilton Hawaiian Village, there is a very good duo that plays in the lounge off the lobby - excellent guit...

Studio vs Live

After the Philly show, I went through my recorded live CD's (mostly T,T & S and Hawaii) and created a mix CD of 19 songs, all live versions. I think these versions are much better than their original studio tracks because of the energy and drive that is so obvious from the band. I used to be ind...

Riddles is a very average Buffett album. There are no "10's" on this album but there are 5 "keepers" - Ragtop, Bigger Than Both, Knees of My Heart (one of his best reggaes), Burn That Bridge and La Vie Dansante (which is the best track overall - a real gem). Blond Stranger wears ...

Utley Family Tree

Just wondering if Mr. Utley is related to the up-and-coming 2nd baseman for the Phillies, Chase Utley. In any event, the Phillies blew a chance to present Mike with an Utley jersey when they played at Citizens Bank Park a few weeks ago.

Yes that's a very cool photo. How can we get a version without the graphics so we can use it for mix tape (CD's) labels? That would look great on a CD label!

By the way, Jake is widely regarded as the best ukulele player in the world. He was on the first part of Jimmy's tour but had some previous commitments for the second leg. Good to see he will be with Jimmy in Las Vegas.

[quoteContrary to what many people think...Steve Goodman was never a Coral Reefer] Guess it depends on your definition of Coral Reefer - SG is CLEARLY listed as a Coral Reefer on the liner notes of "White Sportcoat" LP. Was he officially in the CR touring band - no...did SG and JB ever per...
