Re: Great 1970's Sit-Coms
Lear used racism, sexism, bigotry, homophobia, anti-Semitism, unemployment, sexual assault, single parenthood, menopause, Vietnam, etc. as central themes of particular episodes to provoke thought and usually to present a point of view. While Seinfeld occasionally referenced pop culture and “topics” ...

Re: Great 1970's Sit-Coms
The man's vision was ahead of his time, and created a template for edgy, present-day topical comedy Norman Lear certainly created edgy, topical comedy, but I would say he was not ahead of his time, but right in his time. I'm hard pressed to list many, if any, present-day "topical" comedie...

Re: Open Enrollment...aka Open Season
Aetna salaries and related benefits were 2.62 billion in 2008. So, if they took away ALL perks and fired EVERYBODY this would reduce my premium by about 12 percent. Instead of $1000 monthly it would be $882. Problem solved?

Aetna gross revenues $31.0 billion in 2008. CEO salary $24.3 million. Cutting his salary in half will reduce my $1000 monthly premium to $999.60. Still a bit high. Fire his butt. Another 39.5 cents a month saved. $999.21 monthly. Problem solved? Middle managers, etc. Let’s cut their perks $310 milli...

My sister hit me in the head with a thrown lawn dart when we were young. In case it's not obvious, I was not killed. Nonetheless, they are dangerous for kids. Apparently it is not THAT uncommon to get hit in the head. We thought it was a one in a million shot. Hmmm.....blow to head at a young age......

Re: Columbine ...10 Years Gone
Fortunately we don’t have to wonder what the founding fathers might say on the subject. “Laws that forbid the carrying of arms... disarm only those who are neither inclined nor determined to commit crimes... Such laws make things worse for the assaulted and better for the assailants; they serve rath...

Re: Columbine ...10 Years Gone
Yes, court decisions can be tenuous. That’s why they are a bad way to rewrite the Constitution. Amend it if you don’t like what it says. Same with subversive executive orders and legislation. Politicians and activist should be statesmen and not back door weasels. Have the courage of conviction. And ...

Re: Columbine ...10 Years Gone
Once the government wields that kind of power (and they do now), it won't really matter what you and your neighbors have sitting in your gun cabinets. If they ever get serious about confiscating your firearms due to some real or imagined security threat, they will simply drop by and take them. As w...

Re: Columbine ...10 Years Gone
Fair enough, but I can't believe you and others here could defend the means of which these attacks were carried out. Without those particular weapons, and I'm focusing on assault weapons here, those events LIKELY DON'T HAPPEN. Even those two punks at Columbine couldn't build the bombs they envision...

If he is a person of substance and character and especially if he is smart, I would support him 100% to the exclusion of all other endeavors, including school. The only thing he is losing by pursuing his dream is time. Don’t most of us wish we had taken a shot back when there wasn’t much to lose. No...

Re: Columbine ...10 Years Gone
It's harder to defend rights toward assault weapons after you revisit this sad anniversary. Fortunately, our founders were smart enough to provide us a Constitution to ensure that we are not REQUIRED to constantly justify and defend our fundamental rights. They also gave us a process to change the ...

Re: FOX News mocks Canadian military . . .
There should be another news group that does nothing but interpret the other news agencies and come up with something that resembles whats really going on. Their ALL supposed to be telling us “what’s REALLY going on”. Unfortunately, the press deliberately and negligently abdicated their responsibil...

My apologies to whomever if they were actually implying the WRITER of the story was lying rather than the AL Commander. Others were implying that the AL was not a credible source, although it seems they were. Nonetheless, the gist of the story is true and discussing the issue does not mean anyone is...

Re: American Legion Opposes President's Plan to charge wounded..
Don’t know what’s worse, the greedy politicians that proposed the idea, or those rationalizing a defense for the idea. Maybe worse those calling the Commander of the American Legion, a VETERAN himself, calling him an out and out LIAR in his characterization of his conversation with the president. Wi...

The government is just like the mafia. When you get some “help” from them, they OWN you. Remember that when they want to ”give” you something.

Re: Do you support the Obama "stimulus package"?
It would take days to read and understand a complete loan package anymore. So true, but it doesn’t take hours of reading to know your interest rate and the basic terms of your loan. we can sit here and b**** against the stimulus or for the stimulus, however, we all have NO choice about it because i...
