You could go to one of those fast-track schools, like Delta Connection Academy, Pan Am, etc. Some of them will even guarantee you an interview with an airline. Minimum 40 hours for private license. So if you rent a Cessna 172 for 100 an hour, thats 4k right there, without the instructor who will be with you at least 30 hours minimum probably. Instructors usually run $20-30 an hour from what I've experienced. Checkrides here in the midwest are usually $250....
