New Margaritaville Cafe (South Florida)

A couple of months ago, I heard a rumor that Margaritaville was coming to Delray Beach (1/2 way between Ft. Lauderdale & Palm Beach, 50 miles north of Miami). It seems that a top chef that works in one of the trendy restaurants along the Atlantic Ave. entertainment district in Delray, spotted an...

Re: Who's going to Fort Lauderdale 2/27/10

Mrs. McKay & two daughters, trying to decide how early to arrive. Couldn't ask for a better lot to tailgate. If we get there too early, must pace ones-self. Don't want to slip from a great party, to acting stupid!

Sail On Byron Lee

I don't know if someone already reported on this, as I was out of the country this past week. The legendary Jamaican bandleader, songwriter, Byron Lee of Dragoneers fame, passed away at age 70. He wrote and performed many soca, ska. calypso, reggae, and rock steady tunes that we all know. Hot, Hot, ...

Wow! I can't believe so many of you totally missed my point. My instincts want to explain what I wrote, but my gut feeling is y'all still wouldn't get it.

Disappointment? Yes. Reevaluate loyalty? Get real, with the problems in this here world today, your little set-back is nothing more than a pimple on a pirate's ass. Think about the situation in Iraq for a few minutes. Waa, waa, waa, maybe you should have a drink, it just might be good medicine for y...

''Mac''

Yesterday afternoon, at my office, I heard a tune by Mac on M-ville Radio, entitled ''The Window''. It really displayed the quality and resonance of his fine voice. Also, it was a pretty good job of tune writing. A good portion of you BN'ers out there, probably know the song, and my bringing it up i...

Just thought I'd clarify my previous post. The basis for my comments was the whole autism event not the extra added little act of kindness to the blogger and her daughter. That was nice, but secondary. As always, Gardner McKay, Jr.

Yet another act of humanitarian kindness by Buff. I'm glad we got to hear about this particular one. Jimmy doesn't let any grass grow under his feet. It seems as if he goes out of his way to think of things he can do to help other people and the environment. He's proved time and again that it's way ...

Margaritaville Lyric

I've heard, and own, I don't know how many versions of M-ville. Does anyone know when or why Jimmy changed the lyric ''cut my heel'' to ''broke my leg twice''? Also, I wonder for what reason? It seems to me that stepping on a pop top would more likely cut your heel. Breaking your leg twice from such...

Margaritavilles

Just arrived back from Grand Cayman and Ocho Rios. Ocho Rios M-ville was from hunger, no Buffett tunes, not even Marley or reggae either. Mostly American ''Rap'' and goofey little sexy bits with the young girls that were in attendance.Food was mediocre. Grand Cayman was a bit better, however, no tun...

Don Ho was one of my personal favorites, second only to the late Alfred Apaka. I got into Hawaiian music through my dad who was a Navy man and pro musician for a time. Of all the obits I've read today about Don, not one mentioned his other big hit ''Pearly Shells''. One other note to share, on a cas...

Thanks for all the input. It never hurts to ask a question if you don't know something, no matter how dumb you think the question is. In closing , I located my PH handbook, checked out Love & Luck, and come to find out it was the first tune ever recorded at Shrimp Boat Sound Studio. Thanks again...

Does anyone out there know the literal translation of the patois term ''kole sere'' ? I know it's from a zouk music tune written and sung by a female friend of JB's, but I must confess, I don't know what it means. Also, the word gris from the same song puzzles me. I've searched the internet for an a...

Hot Hot Hot was done originally by Byron Lee & The Dragonaires out of Jamaica. ''Arrow'' another soca artist covered it, followed by Buster's popular version. As always, G.M.,Jr.
