Re: Making Plans For the New Year MONDAY@ the MSC

Well we look to have lost entire towns today in NSW and Victoria. Pretty much the entire south east coast of the country is being impacted. Several people unaccounted for. EDIT: As I was typing this the news of at least three civilian deaths have occurred today. It just topped 42°C here. A small fir...

Re: Making Plans For the New Year MONDAY@ the MSC

There are no significant rains in the long term forecasts. There is a cooler southerly front moving across the continent, but it is very blustery and will make things worse. So I guess that means no, there is no relief in sight. :o The good news is that the fireworks are going ahead!!!! :D :D :D

Re: Making Plans For the New Year MONDAY@ the MSC

That's absolutely ridiculous! Much phin power to the firefighters & residents in the area. (((Rabz))) Sadly, news is coming through of the loss of another firefighter last night. Apparently fire induced winds caused the fire truck to tip over killing him and burning two others. (If you were wonderi...

Re: Making Plans For the New Year MONDAY@ the MSC

Hot Hot Hot. Fires everywhere (so far, that should read everywhere else). The Sydney is under an extreme fire danger warning but the authorities have crumbled to political pressure to allow several hundred tons of explosives to fired into the air and exploded. Apparently the entire country's financi...

Re: Snow has stopped falling Sunday @ the MSC

It's still stinkin' hot and no rain in sight.

Total Fire Bans cover most of the east and south coasts of the continent. Large swathes of the state of Victoria are being urged to evacuate due to the fire danger.

In other news, I need to take the cat to the vet for a check up today. :)

Re: National Chocolate SAT @ the MSC

Hey gang!! Well we are in the midst of a week long "extreme" heatwave (Honestly, I don't know what makes it extreme but the media like to say that word). The fires in our area are much quieter ATM, touch wood. A mate down in southern NSW had a fire sneak up on him, it was so smokey he had no idea un...

So you guys are finally catching up? It's Boxing Day here - just did a supermarket run for bread and milk. Our local 'big chain' supermarket has Hot Cross Buns on the shelves. Did they mover Easter to January?

Good afternoon all. Beautiful weather today in central PA. 51 deg F and sunny. Spent some time with brother Frank and his son Mark outside with cigars and beer. Taking some gifts to the local hospital for the new born babies that are stuck there for Christmas. It's a tradition I started and this wi...

Merry Christmas from the other side of the dateline. Today will be hard - first Christmas without Mum. Anyhoo I scored BIG time - CD's (Cold Chisel and Mick Thomas, I guess none of you guys will have heard of them :) ). The real score is a 1:144 Airfix scale model of a Saturn V rocket. Re: Back at it MONDAY @ the MSC

So, something weird happened this morning. I went out into the back yard to perform the forlorn task of checking the rain gauge. In amongst the dust, ash and spider webs was something odd. There was water in the bottom of the gauge. Not much, but definitely water. 0.25mm (there are 25.4mm to an inch...

Re: Take a breath SUNDAY @ the MSC

Nope. Too bloody dangerous to take deep breaths around here, you'd end up suffering from smoke inhalation :) Braved the shopping centre to get the last of the Christmas perishables, 5 kg ham (11 lbs?), 2 kg of king prawns (shrimp 4.5 lbs?) that sort of stuff. While I was at the fishmongers I picked ...

It was hard tell whether it was a long day or not. It was dark for most of the daylight hours due to the smoke. I was a long long long day for those in the Blue Mountains, west of Sydney. If I stand on my roof on a clear day I can see parts of the Blue Mountains. The battles up there were fast, movi...

Re: Time with Friends Friday @ the MSC

Just checking in.

It's mid afternoon, and very hot and very smokey.

The major fire nearest us is active on the side away from us, but I am not going to second guess it! The flank nearest us is under 12 miles away which is only a couple of hours away if it gets going.

So far, so good.

Happy Birthday, Steve. Well the working year is drawing to a close (thankfully). It did not, however, go to plan. Late last week I received an urgent job to update nine maintenance manuals, exactly why it was urgent is still a mystery - who will be doing maintenance over Christmas? So, accordingly I...
