Re: Las Vegas for non gamblers?

Wow.....sounds like it would be extremely fun to stay at the Nugget sometime and check out that pool! When I was a kid, I loved the pool scene at the Flamingo. There were these two-story rooms just off the pools and I just KNEW these were so elegant and so much more decadent than my family's little ...

Re: Las Vegas for non gamblers?

Some of the pool scenes in Las Vegas are extremely cool. At the MGM Grand, you can sip umbrella drinks while you intertube along the "river", so mellow. Caesar's Palace is old-school glamorous. The Tropicana's pool scene is very dated, but they keep a few hot tubs and one of the pools open...

Re: Nassau/Paradise Island Bars

Ok, C-dawg, you're freaking me out here! Big sharks off Eleuthera? I thought they kept them all on the south side of New Providence where they taught them to snarl at caged humans. Hey, I'm supposed to be snorkeling off Eleuthera in two months! Now you tell me? Ha....just kiddin'. Diving looks reall...

Re: Nassau/Paradise Island Bars

For an authentic, very, very fun time, have dinner at the Fish Fry. Bring some cash....you can take a local bus there, but will have to cab it back, since the buses stop running around 7 pm. Oh, Johnnie Canoe's is closed.

Re: Mazatlan

A villa? Sounds pretty amazing....you'll never leave the place now!
Don't forget Isla de la Piedra - not a villa in sight, but you'll have lots of fun!
Ah, sometimes the rest of us have to live vicariously! Thanks for the update!

Re: Mazatlan

My friends and I were staying at the Mazatlan Pueblo Bonito 4 years ago and we were offered a come-on we couldn't refuse - so I've actually "toured" the Emerald Bay condo property! It's pretty far out of town and 4 years ago, the scene there was pretty sleepy (they were still working on th...

Hey, Britparrothead! So sorry about Nick........it's best that he has discovered this condition now and that he's following his doctor's advice. Fins up for Nick, yes! I've been thinking about going to Morocco next year, so that doesn't sound like compensation to me at all!!! It's just a different, ...

Was there 2 years ago for a conference. We checked out some comedy clubs at night.....Second City and Zanie's were both really cool....both shows were way too short. My stomach ached from laughing so hard. Another night, a sales rep took us clubbing - the House of Blues was incredible. Coyote Ugly's...

Haven't done it yet............you might want to read the mystical romance Green Mansions. Setting is the Orinoco River and jungle. It's by HR Hudson who wrote it at the beginning of the 20th Century.....so a bit wordy but visually vivid. You can probably find the whole book on line since it's a cla...

Oh, cool! It sounds like your family is into doing really great adventures. The Peruvian gvt. requires everyone to hike the trail with guides and allows a total of just 500 people a day on the trail. Of the 500, 200 to 300 (can't remember exactly) are guides, porters, cleaner-uppers....my point is t...

Inca Trail and Amazon headwaters

My friend and I will be going to Peru next June. She'll be there for 2 weeks and I'll be there for a month or 5 weeks. She and I will do the Inca Trail and then we're going to hang out with monkeys, parrots, anacondas and paranas in the Madre de Dios River region for a week. My question for those of...

Hey, Conched!

I've been meaning to thank you for those INCREDIBLE links to Mali from August 31st. Man........way cool, yes? Maybe the Festival will be a birthday present to myself in 2009. Quite exotic, huh? Are you planning to go? You seem pretty knowledgeable and inspired, as well.
