One thing I just can't figure out though...what's Jimmy gonna do with the POW verse he always has someone else sing?... "I'm a dreadful sight and I just don't care Spent all morning pulling out my hair I woke at dawn with a crazy spin Half the day trying to glue back in" Mac sings it when...

Because they play music *from* the tropics, not music *influenced* by the tropics. I understand what you're saying, but isn't something like OPH from the tropics?? Tahitian choirs, written in French Polynesia -- how much more tropical can you get?? (One could go on and on and on...Island?? Lone Pal...

Interesting game they play with radio; amazing timing for HGL given their rules. (Re. POW and Toby, if Mockingbird is the best they can do, I'll go back to CDs for a while.) Anyway, since that wall wouldn't come down, good for Jimmy for finding some way to get around it and get POW out there as a si...

Tropical channel is 94... no Jimmy.
How can you have a tropical channel with no Jimmy??! Wouldn't that kind of be like having a Caribbean bar with no rhum, a baseball game with no beer or peanuts, or a harbour with no boats? Just doesn't register to me.

Having pondered a bit more, it probably was all about getting the lens (which enables the lighthouse to run) -- kind of like finding the key that unlocks the door. An interesting piece of symbolism is that the lens was found in Florida -- you can search the world over for things that make a differen...

I think the book was all about getting the lighthouse running again. A key piece to that, of course, was getting the lens. With the lighthouse running, Cleopatra had her resting place and could die, Tully could move on, etc.

I like RM coming across the internet and would rather not have to subscribe to something else -- XM or Sirius. The concept of RM as an independent and innovative station is a great one and I'd hate to see the format (e.g. live concerts) lost to fit another mold, or licensing, or whatever.

I agree with Four Play re. Cleopatra setting things up and that when she was done, she was done. Also, giving only 2-pages to her death shows that the book is about life, not about death -- life is what fills up the pages (kind of sounds like Jimmy, doesn't it?) Another thing that I liked, separate ...

Okay, in "Growing Older but not Up" he sings: "I rounded first, never thought of the worst as I studied the shortstop's position, Crack went my leg like the shell of an egg, someone call a decent physician" (first broken leg) Then, in YHTBT M'ville he sings "broke my leg twi...

Hmmmm...interesting topic. I answered "something else" because it was the closest since "something more" wasn't an option. I definately like the lyrics, music and lifestyle, but I'd also add his books, work ethic, business acumen, and gracious attitude to my list. Many of my stro...

ASPL Debuts #3 on NY Times Bestseller List

A Salty Piece of Land is #3 on the NY Times list. (Looks like the Mitch Ablom book got a boost from the made-for-TV-movie that was on last week.) If you haven't gotten and read ASPL yet, you're missing out on a great one!!! http://www.nytimes.com/pages/books/bestseller/
