best lines from Buffett songs

Post by tnsna »

I know this has been done. Maybe someone could paste a link with the thread. If not I would like to hear what peoples favorite lines are from various songs. My favorite are:

Living it day to day
And still twenty four hours, maybe sixty good years
It's still not that long a stay.

I made enough money to buy Miami,
But I p*** it away so fast,
Never meant to last, never meant to last.

I have been drunk now for over two weeks,

Ran into a chum with a bottle of rum,
and we wound up drinkin' all night.

It's my job, to be different from the rest,
And that's enough reason to go for me...

I came with nomad feet and some wandering toes,
That walk up my longboard and hang off the nose

I travel on the song lines that only dreamers see,
Not known for predictability...

We'll barrel roll into the sun,
Just for starters...

I've got a big suspicion 'bout ammunition
I never forget to duck
Carry on as you know they would want you to do. ~~JB, dedication to Tim Russert

Take your time
Find your passion
Life goes on until it ends
Don’t stop living
Until then

Jimmy didn't write it himself (can't remember who did) but:

Goin' where the weather suits my clothes.

Here's a few off the top of my head:

Lookin' back at my background
Tryin' to figure out how I ever got here

Wrinkles only go where the smiles have been

Some of it's magic and some of it's tragic
But I've had a good life all the way

I've had good days and bad days and goin' half-mad days

Now I use to go crazy for days at a time
Now I'm takin my time with my days

If we weren't all crazy we would be insane

Gosh there are so many more too...

Oh and nycparrothaed ... that song's by Fred Neil :D

sgh-
Good choice.
It was used in a friend of mine's eulogy a few years ago now, and to this day I still look up to the sky whenever I hear it and think of him.

Here's just a sample...

Reading departure signs in some big airport
Remind me of the places I've been
Visions of good times that brought so much pleasure
Make me want to go back again. 8)

Good times and riches, and Son of a B*****s
I've seen more than I can recall

Now I think about the good times
Down in the Carribbean Sunshine...

We could go hiking on Tuesday,
With you I'd walk anywhere :)
I wanna go back to the Island...

See you in Boston, September 2nd!

Life was just a tire swing.

Give me oysters and beer for dinner ev'ry day of the year

I'm sorry it's ended
It's sad but it's true
Honey it's been a lovely cruise

One lucky man
With my feet in the sand

Hard to believe it's happening
But my whole world's shrunken to
All the ways I want you

And feel like I'm marooned,
He will take me in his rocket ship
To that beach house on the moon.

I've proved who I am so many times,
The magnetic strip's worn thin

There are more and some of those Jimmy didn't write but they are amongst MY favorites that he has sung/written.
When they run you out of town make it look like you are leading the parade.

If I had it all to do over again, I'd just get myself drunk and jump right back in

We've gotta roll with the punches
Learn to play all of our hunches
Makin' the best of whatever comes your way
Forget that blind ambition
And learn to trust your intuition
Plowin' straight ahead come what may

You’ve only got two options
Having fun or freaking out

One lucky man
With my feet in the sand
Tonight I just need my guitar
You’re still grinning, we’re still winning, nothing left to say
I’m still gliding as I go flying down this endless wave
tryin' to reason

Barefoot children in the rain,
Got no need to explain...

Life is just a tire swing...
We'll party just like Bubba does,
We'll do the Old Man proud!

"Let's all take our clothes off and form a conga line!
Watch out for that broken glass, hey Snake we need more wine!"

"But livin' in the briar patch ain't what it appears
Sooner or later you gotta face your fears."

"And there's that one particular harbour
Sheltered from the wind
Where the children play on the shore each day
And all are safe within

Most mysterious calling harbour
So far but yet so near
I can see the day when my hair's full gray
And I finally disappear...." (BUT NOT YET) thank God :D

And my current favorite:

"I see a flying boat
and I get a lump in my throat
and I say Someday I Will
Someday

So whatever thrills you
Anything you love to do
Just say someday I will."

:-? Isn't this kinda like pickin' a favorite child? (although the 91/2 yr. old keet has been pushing it)

How 'bout "Take your drunken 15 year...." OOPs wrong site

Most of my fav's have been mentioned, one that hasn't that came to mind was,

"Where it all ends
I can't fathom my friend,
If I knew I might toss out an anchor"

And there is always...

"Find yourself a lover who will glue you to the floor" :o :o :o :D
"Boat drinks, waitress we........nevermind"

Here are mine:

"Keep your raft from the riverboat
fiction over fact always has my vote
the wrinkles only go where the smiles have been"

"and then i think about the good times,
down in the caribbean sunshine,
in my younger days I was so bad
Laughing about all the fun we had"

You can probably guess my third one by looking at my quote
"I've read dozens of books about hero's and crook's and I've learned much from both of their styles"

I'm just trying to get by
being quiet & shy

Years grow shorter not longer
The more you've been on your own
Feelings for moving grow stronger
So you wonder why you ever go home

If I had it all to do over again
I'd just get myself drunk and I'd jump right back in

Cause I'm living on things that excite me
Be it pastry or lobster or love

Maybe later...
Just trying to get by being quiet and shy!!
