Booze in the blender question!

Post by Tiki Bar »

(And no, not our BoozeintheBlender!)

So I whipped up a pina colada... I'm experiencing technical difficulties, in that when I attempt to drink it, it's all "solidified", and I tilt it further and further until it "gives" all at once and ends up all over my face!

Is my problem too much ice? Should I add more rum?

Is it not enough ice?

Or will it happen regardless, and I should use a straw?

Here's my tip to making frozen drinks....

put in ice (no liquid) and blend
add a little alcohol and mix
blend more
add more ice and blend
add more alcohol and mix
blend again

pour one drink and put the rest in the freezer

We make them in one gallon quantities without ice and put them in the freezer. When it is time to serve them, pull the frozen concoctions from the freezer, spoon them into a blender to "fluff" them, then serve.

The result is a nice creamy frozen boat drink!

I have seen the one gallon quantities. Heh.
If you want an experience, go to a Jimmy Buffett concert.

Experience is something you don't get until just after you need it.

Life is short, live long!!

Either add more rum or water...on the boat I use one of these...

For single servings I usually fill a 16 oz. cup with ice, dump it in the blender, add rum, colada mix to float the ice, then fire it up...I like the fact that as it's mixing, I can pull the stick and add either water or rum if needed to get the desired consistency.

If you're making them with real cream of coconut, they are going to get a semi-solid top on them no matter what. Use a drink stirrer periodically and you should be good to go.

What was that unfrozen drink you made at the Aqua Casa last time? I think it was cranberry or something or other.

O.K. here's the deal!!!! I've made over 1000 pina coladas in my life maybe more :o (Been a bartender a loooong time) The reason your concoction is so thick is too much ice. It's a fine balance between to soupy and super thick. If ya get an ice burg after blending add more booze or if your a sissy add more pineapple juice. Just a bit till everything swirls around nicely. But it is true, get a nice big straw and you should be able to get it started that way. and if your a slow drinker it will get easier as the drink warms up. Also never use a pre mix (yuck) you are worth the real deal. Use a can of Coco Lopez and dilute with half and half. then equal parts coconut and pineapple juice. (and of course the booze) and always float a nice DARK RUM on top. (preferably Goslings) GOOD LUCK!!! :pirate:
Image Met up with a CHUM with a bottle of RUM... and wound up drinkin all night!

Tiki- to avoid the whole thing hitting you in the face and sliding down your neck, leave out the ice and mix and drink the rum straight...you should be able to drink plenty of those before the rum hits you in the face again! :pirate:
