And I have met Heather (LIPH is my witness for that encounter)

Both were extremely cool people, although both were quite sweaty at the time. If I had to choose one to hug while sweaty and one to have a beer with, I think the choice would be obvious.
because Heather looks like a beer drinker?

I've met him as most know so I will not repeat the story - but you can find it somewhere back about a year ago in the postings (maybe??)

I think it's so cool another BN'er won a contest/trip/meeting. ANd it's cool it is not the same contest every year.... I just hope Jimmy realizes he will have to tour many more years until all the bn'ers have had a chance to win

I also love all the stories of ya'll meeting him at other times - unexpectedly!! So cool!! He really is down to earth.

Met him a few times, and have managed to gather his autograph multiple times. Some were fairly easy, i.e. back in the days when he used to schedule book signings it was easy enough to camp out overnight to insure that I would be the first person in line to get my copy of his book signed. While the booksigning folks were running through the book signing rules with the people in the long line behind me, I usually had a few moments to chat with Jimmy.

Other autographs I have been able to obtain were from front row seats at Merriweather Post Pavilion a few times. Merriweather Post was a GREAT venue to be lucky enough to sit front row. Unlike other venues, their front row seats are right up close to the stage itself, and we were actually able to talk with Jimmy between songs. One year my wife was very obviously 6 months pregnant and Jimmy spoke with her several times between songs, asking nicely when she was due, etc. He handed her a guitar pick that night also. My favorite story from my Merriweather Post days was the year Jimmy bought me a beer, after kicking a stage beach ball directly in my face spilling the beer I had in mid-sip.

But my best encounter by far was my first, a totally by chance meeting in Key West back in 1989 .... back in the days Jimmy would still occasionally walk into and out of the Margaritaville Cafe from Duval Street without an entourage of people with him. That story and photos can be read at ........ http://www.surfpirates.com/piratejournals/intro.html ....... (scroll down to the "A Surfer Looks At 30" link).

I also was finally fortunate enough to meet Captain Tony (after many Key West visits where I was always told that I "just missed" him), when I was able to wrangle an invite to his 85th birthday gathering at the Conch Republic Seafood House. I sat at the bar with two of Captain Tony's sons that day listening to stories about their dad. One of the sons was about age 15, and his older half-brother was about age 60! That story and photos are also on the website above (scroll down to the "Captain Tony's 85th Birthday" link).

My luck's not so good anymore. Front row seats are harder to come by (though I did manage 2nd row at Nissan a couple of years ago) and Jimmy rarely does anything like a book signing anymore. I think the best opportunities now will be when Jimmy plays those smaller and more exotic venues, e.g. Anguilla and Paris. From the stories I've read here, several people have been lucky enough to meet him and get an autograph and more.

I missed meeting Larry in Pittsburgh this year by just a few minutes. Very unfortunate. Maybe next year. Anyone have any good tips on how I can find him? :D

Maybe it's because in spite of all the work we do, it's the child in us we really value.

DD really wants to meet him, but my concern would be, what if it's not all she's built it up to in her mind?

Obviously not that we'll get a chance...

Just because he works in Manhattan doesn't make him a professional...
