Margaritaville.com says Jimmy & the Reefers have recorded Richie's "All Night Long" for an upcoming release of his (Richie's) songs as duets with country singers.
from theboot.com:
According to producer Tony Brown, the velvet-voiced singer has so far completed duets with Darius Rucker ('Stuck on You'), Tim McGraw ('Sail On'), Kenny Rogers ('Lady'), Willie Nelson ('Easy'), Little Big Town ('Deep River Woman'), Blake Shelton ('You Are'), and Jimmy Buffett and the Coral Reefer Band ('All Night Long'). Yet to be recorded are duets with Sugarland's Jennifer Nettles and the Zac Brown Band.
I called this over 5 years ago on here (what'd I win). I didn't think it would be a duet though.
Lionel Richie is my favorite R&B singer & All Night Long is an awesome song which definitely has an island feel.
I also think Nadirah would hit it out of the park.
The old video certainly has that 80s cheese, kinda like La Vie Dansante video

OOO hadn't thought of that.....Nadirah would TOTALLY knock that one outta the ballpark!!
My love is staying an anchor tied to you with that silver chain.
I vaguely remember at the Vegas show in 2010 I think before WDWGDAS Jimmy mentioning doing a track with Lionel Ritchie in a couple of days. Then proceeded to tell a story from the 1970s about how Buffett had to follow Lionel Ritchie & The Commodores at a booking convention and playing Get Drunk and ending up being booked as much as Ritchie that year.

Yeah it should have been a duet with the Drive By Truckers
Not a fan of Lionel Richie or Kenny Rogers. That MOR stuff is just not my cup of tea. I doubt the DBTs would be found anywhere near a Lionel Richie record. Now, Booker T. or Bettye LaVette? Yes.
I guess I don't see how it's rock bottom. It's just a duet.
If Jimmy would've covered it, it would've been cool to hear Nadirah, Ralph, and Robert in it.
& btw, The DBT must be pretty MOR themselves or else you would not be talking to yourself about them for 7 years in that thread.

"Rock bottom" might be overstating it just a bit but I would not normally associate Buffett with an adult contemporary type artist such as Lionel Richie. However, if they're going to do a duet together, I'm guessing out of Lionel's catalog, "All Night Long" is as fitting a song as any. I'm just not a fan of Lionel or that style of music in general. Kudos to Buffett for expanding his musical horizons and for Lionel (or whoever assembled his duet partners for this record) for thinking of Buffett but there's probably a million other musical directions I'd rather see Buffett expand in rather than the MOR song stylings of someone like Richie.
