Dive Bar SUNDAY @ the MSC

Post by Saltx3 »

Good Morning Everyone!

Today is NATIONAL DIVE BAR DAY....anyone have any stories to share about their favorite ?

On July 7, raise a toast to the place where friends gather and memories are made. It’s National Dive Bar Day!

From the one-time speakeasy to the little hole-in-the-wall, the dive bar is like an old pair of jeans; it just fits right. During the week, we can stop in, our team will be playing on the TV, and the beverages will be icy cold. The same dart and pool leagues meet every year, and familiar faces go head to head.

Dive bars last. On Friday nights, even their sweethearts still show up for date nights at the beach shack where they met 20 years ago. If we drive the back roads of small towns, the dive bar serves the best steaks for miles around.

The dive bar is more than just a place to kick back and relax. It’s where we mark out life’s plans, celebrate its successes, and make memories to treasure. We make friends who become family and remember those who have left us behind.

This holiday is about the first place to come to mind when it’s time to celebrate, to hang out with friends or just feel at home once again. We may use the term dive bar with a bit of fondness, however, many of these places have been around a long time. “I remember when…” is a familiar phrase heard often enough. Raise a toast to the bars and pubs where they know us and take care of us.

Good morning Linda. We had cheap beer and free peanuts at the Chinese Hotel on Thursday nights. Shells went on the floor.A group from college drove an hour to to partake. My roommate spread a good story of all the Orientals in this place. One guy fell for it and wondered where they were after being in the place for a bit. The correct name was the Dowling hotel, but if the syllables were separated, it sounded different, hence the nickname for the bar.
If I wasn't fishing in this all day rain,I'd be home doing something stupid.

Good morning all. Penny, I hope you're feeling better. No shortage of dive bars where I live.
Ultimate dive bar experience was in the Outer Banks of North Carolina. Some shack way back in
the salt marsh. Bar was a board laid across a couple of barrels. Heavyset, bearded bartender wearing
a wife-beater shirt. Cans of beer served out of an ice chest. Customers asked if I was a "yankee" or
a "d*m yankee". :pirate:

Good morning. There's a movie from a couple of years ago called Hell Or High Water. Jeff Bridges plays a Texas Ranger and there's a great scene where he goes into a restaurant in a small town with his partner, the place could pass for a dive bar. The movie hasn't been on cable for a while so I had to google this:

Marcus Hamilton: Howdy ma'am. How are you doing today?
T-Bone Waitress: Hot. And I don't mean the good kind. So, what don't you want?
Marcus Hamilton: Pardon?
T-Bone Waitress: What don't you want?
Marcus Hamilton: Oh, well, uh. I think I'll just, uh...
T-Bone Waitress: You know, I've been working here for 44 years. Ain't nobody ever ordered nothing but T-Bone steak and a baked potato. Except this one a**hole from New York tried to order trout back in 1987. We don't sell no goddamned trout. T-bone steaks. So either you don't want the corn on the cob, or you don't want the green beans. So what don't you want?
Marcus Hamilton: I don't want green beans.
Alberto Parker: I don't want green beans either.
T-Bone Waitress: Steaks cooked medium rare.
Alberto Parker: Can I get my steak cooked just a...
T-Bone Waitress: That weren't no question.
what I really mean . . . I wish you were here

Used to have a dive bar in our little town called the Cozy. Music from a juke box, 2 pool tables in a crowed side room, never actually sat down when we went and if you wanted food, order early cause kitchen closed at 10. Bryan always had a Gyro, and said they were awesome. I usually had some deep fried something or other. The guys shot pool, the girls leaned, drank and gossiped.
So, today is laundry and Directv day. Getting equipment upgraded yay. Dogs are being a pain in the butt, barking and whining. Well, mostly Charley girl is being a pain in the butt.
Happy Sunday, and phin power to those still recovering!

Phewww it’s hot and humid at Ringville. Sat on the upper deck and tried to enjoy the crowler we brought home from our Tattered Flag Brewery visit yesterday. Kevin didn’t last. I’m still out here but it’s getting oppressive 😳

Afternoon BNers 8)

Trying to watch the drag races and Astros games on tv...at the same time. Flipping back and forth between commercials is making me nuts. They need to sync up better. Lol

I asked them what the difference was. I was told a yankee comes to visit, a d*m yankee comes to stay.
I said, "Just a yankee."

It wasn't an ideal day for a walk in the park. A holiday weekend, 85 degrees and humid. But now that I'm back home, air conditioning is a beautiful thing.

Do the newer fancy TVs have picture in picture or is that an old school feature?

Our tv does have PIP but our cable doesn't work with it.
Oh well, our friend won Funny Car for the 3rd year in a row! I think they need to start thinking about moving to NH ;)

The Astros game is still going...it has been a game of HR and Grand Slams. Right now the Astros are behind again but I haven't given up on them.

Wait! The Astros just tied it again!!!!!

Hi there! Yay for the Stros, Molly!

The only good things were food and a little art. Blueberry crepes, prime rib subs, beer and fries with a banana split for supper ,then time in the studio. I've made some fun, funky flamingoes. All the stuff I make I never keep any. It's time to start.
If I wasn't fishing in this all day rain,I'd be home doing something stupid.

Hey moogy.
How's the cat doing?
Any specific plans for Utah? Never been but it's on the 'maybe' list

Visiting Edith’s family. The cat is a little wobbly on his feet. Arthritis. He’s 19 so it’s expected.
