Drink Some Rum FRIDAY @ the MSC

Post by Saltx3 » August 16, 2019 7:04 am

Good Morning Everybody !!

It's NATIONAL RUM DAY
Join National Rum Day on August 16th as blended beverages and cocktails create a delicious celebration. Rum is a distilled clear alcoholic beverage which is a byproduct of sugar production. It can also be made directly from sugar cane juice. After the fermentation and distillation process, most rum ages in wooden oak barrels.

RUM FACT: In 1764, the British Crown placed a tax on sugar, molasses and rum on the American colonies. This tax was called The Sugar Act of 1764. It was instrumental in the unrest that finally became the American Revolution.
Rum is the third most popular spirit in the United States. Only vodka and all the whiskeys combined beat it for first and second-rankings. The spirit finds its way into citrusy mixed drinks, and cool blended summer cocktails. So much so, that rum stirs up images of sandy beaches and brightly colored umbrellas in fruity drinks.

However, rum also conjures up sailors and pirates. The reason for that is how rum came to be. In the West Indies during the 1600s, large plantations grew sugar cane. When they extracted the sugar, they created a by-product called molasses. For years, the molasses was a waste product until it was discovered it could be distilled – into rum. Then, rum became not only a commodity for trade but also a ration on the ships delivering the product. Even in the modern Royal Navy, British sailors received an allotment of rum until 1970.

Hi Linda, Andrea, and Bill! :)

Gosh, I haven't had rum in forever. No particular reason, just not a big drinker of it.

TGIF, for sure!! Week feels longer than 5 days.

Time to head that way! :)

Good morning BN. National RUM day, perfect reason to visit my local rum store. I had the last fumes from my rum bottle about 15 hours ago and I need to make a rum run this morning. Can't sail without rum, I'm thinking of sailing today but the heat may cancel that plan.

Why is the rum always gone.

Hello to everybody who’s anybody.
Several bottles of rum at my house, however, I’m not staying at my house due to ongoing repair issues. I haven’t had any rum myself in quite a while- these days it’s two glasses of red wine per week and that’s it. But today (tonight) I plan to pick up a bottle of Myers Dark Rum and take it with me when I go to Fairfax this evening with my “hosts” for a house concert by the one and only Donnie Brewer.

No. But I did tell the people at Service Master to go take a flying fk at a rolling donut, dumped them, and hired Serv Pro. Yesterday I went to one of their carpeting/tiling stores that they sub contract with and they had me pick out carpeting for the living room, hallway, and stairs, and a tile pattern for the bathroom. (I’m a GUY- how the hell do you pick out carpeting and tile?)
Also yesterday, a dry wall sub contractor and his very hot female assistant went to my house to determine the amount of drywalling I’d need.
First time a lady that gorgeous has been in my house in 9 years. 8)

They're supposed to get up to 8" of rain in parts of Florida today..... here in rainy Seattle, we've had 1.96" since May 1st (and that was the total for 19 different days with precip.)

Rum and Tonic with a slice of lime is one of my favs.

About a half hour after the thunderstorm ended, it started raining again. No thunder but it was really coming down. The sun's trying to come out now, maybe I better get out there and get my daily walk in before it starts raining again.

Brewers are getting like department stores rushing the seasons. There are a lot of pumpkin beers and Oktoberfests in the stores already. It's still summer beer season.
